Demonic Beasts

Slash!

Slash!

Slash!

"We were just fighting bees, why are we fighting these demon dogs now?!" Demon hounds appeared right after we exterminated the bees. They emit small amounts of demonic energy, making it hard for us to kill them in one slash.

"Shut the fuck up, Shanon!"

"Stop swearing in front of the child!" I warned Oleixe as I exterminated the last hound remaining.

"This kid is annoying!" He exclaimed, opening the next door that leads to more stairs. "Alright, I'll go first in case some kind of trap is present." Shanon gave him a look of mischief.

"Huh, you're going in? Aren't you a scaredy cat?"

"Shanon."

"Shanon..." I gave her a look of disappointment and crossed my arms.

"Fine, go ahead. You two are such bummers." She pouted.

"You really have the talent to make things awkward, Shanon." Oleixe moved forward to the depths of the building, while we followed suit after.

We walked for a while, passing by countless empty cells and walls that are about to break. It soon became a dark place, with torches not doing a thing to the surroundings.

"Even any kind of light source doesn't work. It has to be some sort of magic." Oleixe commented, seemingly looking around for any light source that can work.

"I'll try to find anything that can dispel this magic instead, if it really was a magic." Shanon tried to lit the room on fire, and surprisingly, it doesn't work. It kinda feels like some sort of magic barrier is casted in this room.

Unlike them who was busy trying to find a light source, I instead tried to move forward with complete blindness. I stumbled here and there, and somehow found myself back to the entrance to the room.

"Where are you everyone?" Shanon shouted.

"I obviously don't know!"

"I'm back at the entrance!" I shouted.

"Calyx, do you have some sort of plan?" I scratched the back of my head and hid my hands in my pockets, until I noticed a certain item that I had forgotten. It was a glowing key.

"Hey, is that a key in your hand?"

"Isn't that the key that you stole from the teacher's desk?" Both of them managed to found their way back to me.

"Uhh, yeah." Looks like this item was emanating some kind of unknown magic. If it's a magic that glows, and works against demonic power, then it must be some kind of holy magic.

"You stole from the teacher? That's definitely some brave stupidity." Oleixe commented.

"Don't even start. What matters is that he got away safely." Shanon touched the key again, only for it to burn her finger.

"No doubt about it. This must be Holy Magic." I commented and earned suspicious looks from them.

"So you're telling us that you're a demon that somehow has immunity against Holy Magic?" Even in the dark, I can tell that Oleixe crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows.

"I mean, some guard telling him to rise to the top is suspicious as well. Just accept it, Oleixe. You're such an old man."

"You-!"

"Alright stop it. You're definitely curious, and I am as well. Let's just use this thing to get to the source of the earthquake first." I attached the key to a string made of earth and spun it around for the barrier to disperse from our sight.

"So this Holy Magic, can you learn it?" Oleixe asked.

"I don't know. Probably since I can handle it." We opened a door that leads to another floor. Unlike most floors, this was completely lit with fluorescent lights and demonic beasts that we can no longer recognize.

As soon as our presence was known, these beasts immediately attacked with their feathery tails, colliding with Shanon's dagger, and was sliced after she applied enough force to cut them into half.

Oleixe now tried to use pure demonic energy as his bullets and speed being reinforced by fire and managed to pierce through the demon dogs that appeared behind us.

After a little more observation, I coated my sword with demonic energy and rushed straight forward, slashing everyone that came into contact with me.

I quickly opened the door to the next room, seeing zombie-like demonic beings entering and entering this room, pushing each other in the process. I used that as an opportunity to slash all their heads off. Beings like this are usually better off having no heads on their shoulders.

"Damn, that's cruel. But then again they look like zombies."

"Exactly." I looked back at them, seeing Shanon slice the last demonic beast in the room. "Phew, we deserve some delicious desserts after all this hard work."

"Good news, I know how to cook." Oleixe threw a slice of cookie pie to us, wrapped in a wood container.

"Thanks." I quietly ate everything on one bite.

"This is actually delicious! I thought that you were useless for some reason." Shanon finished her slice.

"Can you tell me why she's actually in this group?" Honestly, I just got used to her for some reason.

"Let's just move forward." I gripped on my sword tightly just in case.

The next room wasn't pleasant, with demon-like bodies all lying down on the floor and locked up inside the cells. Tables were right in the center of the room, filled with papers and notebooks.

I approached the table and tried to comprehend what was written, only for it to be incomprehensible. "It's some math scribblings. This must have been some kind of lab used by a scientist." I noticed some drawing of a portal. Were they trying to make a portal to the human world?

"This looks like they were once trying to create artificial demon beasts, then shifted their focus on trying to create a portal instead." We turned our focus on Oleixe who scanned each paper. "I might not be some kind of scientist, but I will recognize these formulas anywhere."

"So, what did you find?" Shanon tried to read the writings on the table, only to confuse her further.

"Well, they seemed to have failed on creating the beasts, but hard to say on what happened to the portal one. It also said here that the last artificial beast they created was a dragon. It must be the source of the earthquake." He placed all the papers back in a neat fashion.

"Let's go. It must be near." I formulated every possible way to kill the dragon in my head. Like they say, the best way to defeat an enemy is to find their weakness and strike it. I just need to find that out.
