Chapter 91 - Fresh Eyes

Austin

Shrugging on my blazer and stepping inside the elevator, I leave behind the ‘worried boyfriend’ and put on my business armor. I’ve literally built this building from the ground up with my hands. I designed, invested, and toiled away brick from brick, every inch of this building. No one will succeed in prying it out of my hands if I have any say.

Board of directors be damned.

“Gentlemen,” I say as a greeting. “Let’s get on with it.”

“Austin, we have a lot on the agenda today. Your father’s unfortunate demise has left all the companies under Cane Industries in a precarious state.” One of the ancient geezers that is also known as members of the board drones on.

I let them have their moment. With these boomers, these board meetings are the highlight of their day. Hell, maybe their month. Sometimes they like to call up the gang just to flaunt their authority.

Most of the time, being the youngest, I do not react. But this, today, it’s personal.
