Mia's POV
We all felt it when Mom fell unconscious, and I nearly stopped. But I knew that Mom would have wanted us to keep going and not go back for her body. Instead, I used the grief to fuel a quick shift into my wolf. I ran in front of Levi and Elijah to force them to follow my lead. They always felt responsible for me as I was the only sister and would listen to Mom once they realized that there was no other choice. We had to go on. The Hunters would come after us again and our human identities might have been discovered. I didn't feel like personally being hunted by them, no thanks. I focused on speeding up even more as I saw pack land coming near. I let out a howl of warning. Recent laws in the Supernatural world have announced that if a supernatural creature is being hunted by Hunters, they can run onto pack land even if they are rogues. It also applied for travelling pack members. It had been a very controversial law, but it was still passed by the majority of the Alphas. Right now, that was about to come in handy.
There was an answering howl, signaling that these pack wolves had heard us and were ready to fight off the Hunters that might follow us. Their group right now represented security, something that we needed, if we wanted to regroup to find our fathers. Running even faster, I made it unto the claimed territory first with Levi and Elijah close behind. I didn't shift back because I would have been naked. The other wolves who had answered my howl nodded at us and led us to their home.
The troupe walked in silence until we arrived at their pack house. A female pack member nudged me and led me somewhere where I can change in private. The males had no problems shifting in the open. However, it was too 'scandalous' for a she-wolf to be naked and an insult to her future mate. I had no problem about nudity in groups, but I will respect what these pack wolves wanted.
I quickly shifted into my human form and hurried back to my brothers. The human side and their wolves were extremely protective of me, and being a stranger in unknown territory while not knowing where I was would be bad for their tempers. It didn't help that Levi and Elijah had kept pent-up Alpha energy inside them because there was no proper Alpha to train them. Everyone could feel their status which might put us in an awkward situation. Levi and Elijah were shifted and dressed when I arrived. That wasn't too bad. The problem was they were pointedly disrespecting our hosts and ignoring their questions. All eyes turned to me when I entered. I went immediately to Elijah and Levi 's side to calm them down. Since they hadn't found their mates yet, I was the only one besides mom who could. Their wolves saw me as kin and they were technically by several minutes, my older brothers as they love to point out.
When I was sure they had their tempers and their wolves under control, I turned to face our hosts and plaster a fake smile on my face before saying, "What do you need?" Little did they know, I was planning our escape and potentially their murders. It's what I do. The apparent leader of the group stepped forwards and asked, "Why were you running from Hunters?" What do you think, idiot? That I was going to not run from Hunters and be killed, not today!
I didn't say all that though and pretended to be a lost young girl who is very nice and willing to answer questions. "That's an easy one. We were going to spend a day in the forest with our mother and they were suddenly there," I answered with a smile on my face which I turned to a sad pout as if I was disappointed. Internally, I grinned as most of them dismissed me as weak.
"Then where is your mother, girl?" questioned the man.
I felt Levi and Elijah stiffen at his words and his tone. In fact, I didn't appreciate his tone either, but I didn't lose my cool. I let my eyes tear up, "I-I don't k-know. We l-lost her and now you all are being s-scary and I-I don't know. . ." I turned to the female werewolf who had helped me earlier and I saw was sympathetic to my act.
I asked her politely with tears at the edge of my eyes, "Could you please tell me what pack we are in? My family might be worried."
Her eyes flickered to the leaders and then mine before answering, "This is the Crescent pack technically, but we are subdivision of the Blood Moon pack." I gasped and lost my careful mask that hid my emotions. Crescent pack was my mother's old one, and the Blood Moon pack was where our fathers were located. Levi quickly opened the mind-link between us three, "I think we should leave and come back later."
"Yeah, I think so too. We need to prepare some more before heading into confrontation," agreed Elijah.
"I agree with both of you. We need to call Chris and Mateo anyway," I added. I cut off the link and returned my attention to the wolves in front of us. The wolves in front of us were confused. Mind-link isn't something that is found in many packs. If a pack had one, this meant that they tortured a witch or warlock for them to give them the power of a mind-link. Our witch had done it willingly for us, but it didn't work over long distances.
I said, "Thank you so much for your hospitality. But we need to get going now." Levi , Elijah and I tried to go through the door to leave. I wasn't usually the diplomatic one, that was Mom. Having to take on that role when I much rather punch them and leave was taxing. The leader stopped us by blocking the door, "You can't leave yet, we are not done questioning you. And we need to report you to our superiors. There is also the fact that your brothers have Alpha blood." This time I let Levi confront him. He didn't use words, but because of our Alpha blood, we can impose our will. It helped that technically he was the heir to this pack along with Elijah.
The man got out of our way under the force of Levi 's will and I tried to make sure they didn't follow us by blocking the door. We smelled like a foreign pack and not rogues which was good for blending in. Even then, our scent was faint thanks to the witches. I informed my brothers, "We won't make it out of the territory before they catch us. We need to regroup here." I had an idea which my brothers would tell you is scary because they don't usually end well. I make one mistake and they never let me forget it! I mean how was I supposed to know that the tree would blow up?
I called out to female werewolf, "You there, can you tell where Olivia Miller's parents are?"
She looked at me weirdly and replied, "Olivia Miller is a rogue and has been for a while if you are looking for her."
I shake my head, "Nope, her parents."
The She-Wolf frowned, "It's the yellow house two streets over. You're lucky that our Alphas visit them a lot or I wouldn't have known. If you're hoping to gain favor with them, you shouldn't hold your breath. The Alphas of Blood Moon are two scary twins and I wouldn't cross them."
I took a breath, "Thanks!"
Now, I know why Mom was so tired. Being nice and diplomatic was draining. I much prefer punching people and kicking ass. But Levi and Elijah were on edge with Mom gone and me in danger, so it's my job. Stupid boys, can't they pull it together, so I can break down! In silence, we jog over to the yellow house right where the she-wolf said it would be.
I knock and hear a faint, "Come in!" I do so with Levi and Elijah flanking me in a defensive position. I walk down the hallway and stop at the sight of a woman. Werewolves age slower than humans which makes her not all like your stereotypical grandma. For example, my mom is technically 32 in human years, but in werewolf she is more like 25. We usually go by human years to avoid confusion. This woman is obviously older.
At the sight of us, she dropped the plate she was holding and whispered, "Olivia." She was staring at me, frozen. Apparently, Mom was right when she said that I look like her, even enough for her own mother to mistake us. Mom looked different now, but I guess the last time Mom saw her parents was at my age about, so I understand her confusion.
I waved my hand in front of her face and said, "Excuse me, are you Olivia Miller's parents?"
That seemed to wake her up. She replied loud and clear, "Olivia Miller is my daughter, but I don't know where she is. I am Olivia. Who are you and why do you look like my daughter?"
Levi answered for me, "I am Levi , this is Elijah and Mia. We are triplets and your daughter's children." Time literally stopped. No one moved or said anything. Olivia stared at us and we stared at her.
Suddenly, she put down her bowl and hugged us. She looked every bit of the formidable warrior that Mom described her as. Mom hadn't been close with them because they had been so busy all the time. Mom had been an accident and the couple hadn't even wanted kids until later. But after Olivia, her mother's uterus couldn't hold another baby which made her even more distant.
Olivia said, "You can call me grand-ma. Where is my daughter? She has some explaining to do and how she got kids when she apparently was rejected."
Elijah awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck and told her, "That's the problem," there was a small hesitation "-grandma. We were chased onto your territory by Hunters and they caught mom."
Grandma's face became very blank and then she called out, "FRANK!" she turned to us, "I am calling my husband and we will get Olivia back if that is the last thing I do." Frank or grandpa came into the kitchen at his mate's call, but stopped short at the sight of us. He turned to grandma, "Sweetie, who are these people and why the hell are they in my kitchen?" Grandma approached Frank to calm him down and told him, "These our Olivia's children, our grandchildren: Levi , Elijah and Mia. Remember the postcards she sent, Olivia got caught by Hunters. They need help." Frank turned to face us and looked at each of us in the eye. He apparently saw something he liked because he said, "We will help. You must be the missing prisoners that the patrols sent an emergency message about." Levi was still a little mad from our recent confrontation with the guards and took it out now, "We are not prisoners under werewolf law! We came here only because of Hunters!"
"I know, Levi , but our Alphas are a little crazy ever sine their mate went missing. They treat anyone who isn't pack who stepped onto the territory like prisoners."
The mention of this makes Levi , Elijah and I even more mad. I can't believe that even after they rejected Mom, they don't even have the decency to treat people right. I see the assholes that rejected their other half and apparently can't even respect universal laws. I now want to punch something, preferably their faces.
Mom says not to judge our fathers before we meet them. Right now though, I don't want to meet them.
