Levi 's POV
Our fathers are such assholes. They didn't even look for mom and now they blame her disappearance on their craziness. I understand the fact that without their mates, wolves don't do well, but it's their own fault! It's not like Mom asked to be rejected, she just avoided humiliation by leaving. Their note didn't even have her name on it, what kind of person rejects their mate through a note that calls her simply "She-wolf". Bastards . . .
Frank continued the line of conversation, "The Alphas hate any trespassers. No one knows who their mate was or what the story is. They visit us once a month because apparently our daughter had been friends with their mate or something." I hate the fact that our asshole fathers lie to everyone. I never wanted to meet them and now it seems I have no choice. Mom told us to see them and that's what I will do. I will make eye contact and leave. Mom should have been more precise with her instructions. We always listen to her, but we can take some orders more literally than others. We have the upper-hand in this situation, we know who they are and they don't us. I am worried about Mia. The last couple hours not withstanding, she is a girl of action, not diplomacy. Elijah is quiet until he is violent, and me, well, I'm blunt. Mom is the diplomatic one and without her, I think that we might do something stupid: like revealing Mom to our sperm donors, revealing our existence . . .
First, we have to reach out to Mateo and Chris. I turn to my "grand father" and ask him, "Can we borrow your phone?" He answers, "Sure, we can talk more later." Frank hands over his phone unlocked and I leave the room. Once I feel like I am far enough away that no one can hear me, I dial Mateo's number. For the first time, I'm glad that Mom forced to memorize some people's numbers or else I wouldn't know. Mateo answered the phone after the fifth ring by saying, "This is Mateo-"
I cut him off because I don't have time to waste, "It's Levi ."
"What do you need? Why are you calling from a strange phone? Why can't we feel Olivia's link to the group anymore?" he questioned rapidly.
"We went to the forest and we're ambushed by Hunters. They got Mom, but we made into the Crescent pack territory except they are under the control of the Blood Moon pack. The Alphas are crazy and ignore werewolf law, making us prisoners. Mia managed to find our grandparent's house and we are here, laying low. Mom told us to go to our fathers for help, but I really don't want to," I told him.
Mateo sighed, "You have to. I know the Hunters who probably took your mom. It's the original Hunter base."
I frown, "What the fuck does that mean?"
He groans, "It means that this is the group that we can't take on. If we did, Olivia would kill us because the casualties would be too high for this situation. Now I know why she made us take a magical oath." "Really?" I complain.
Chris' voice came over the phone, "Olivia is unique. We can't break it, not without her permission. You will have to go to your fathers'. It's the only loop-hole I can think of." I nod despite the fact they can't see me, "That sounds good."
Mateo sighs loudly, "I wish we could do more."
I think about it before telling him, "But if it's the loop-hole, why would Mom willingly send us to them?"
Chris seems stumped, "I have no idea."
Mateo curses, "Motherfucking shit! She assumed that your fathers will want to keep you and Elijah safe because you are their heirs. The first born are always more powerful."
I scoff, "Are you sure about that? Mia can beat Elijah and I any day."
Chris chuckles, "I don't know. Just do what you can and have your grandparents call us to bail you out if you get caught."
"Roger that, bye." I hung up the phone and trudged back into the kitchen where everyone was, slightly disappointed by the news they gave me.
Mia looked at me expectantly, "Well, what did Mateo and Chris say?"
I tell her, "They told me that we have to deal with our fathers to get mom back, and to tell our grandparents to call them if we get caught."
Elijah cursed, a rare occurrence as he is usually silent, "Fuck!"
Olivia and Frank looked at us strangely, "And who happens to be your father?" Shit, I forgot they were here. I hesitated, but Mia beat me to it, "The Alphas of the Blood Moon pack-" Elijah and I glare at her as she defends her words, "-What! We need to tell our fathers one day."
Frank seemed pensive, "We need to get you to the Alphas before someone else catches you and kills you."
Mia puts her hands up, "Back up a minute. Who said anything about killing?"
Olivia looked at us sadly, "That is the fate of prisoners who escape."
This time, it was me who cursed, "Fuck! We have no choice either make a break to the border or to our fathers."
Frank added, "If this helps your decision, you won't make it to the border without being caught. We cannot help you with that. However, if you want to get to the Alphas, there is something we can do. Usually, today, there is a pack meeting at the official pack house of the Blood Moon pack which is about two hours from here. There will be a lot of wolves and we can hide you. After the meeting, you can confront them."
I nod my head, "That's a good plan."
"Then it's settled," says Mia, "We can't do anything rash."
I laugh, "That's impossible for you." Elijah is silent, but we can tell he improves. He never really talks much, but we understand each other. I guess that just what happens as triplets and being raised together. Olivia claps her hands together, "We need to start preparing now." She pointed to Mia "You, I'll lend you some of my clothes. You look too distinctive in those. And you two," pointing at me and Elijah. "Wear some of Frank's clothes. C'mon Mia."
I watch Mia leave the room with Olivia. I don't like leaving her with someone we just met even if apparently we share blood. Mom never talked about her parents, from what she told us, they never spent time with her. I turn back towards Frank who is looking at us. He says, "You two need to protect Mia with your lives. She looks too much like Olivia, the Alphas might not react well. And you too look exactly like your fathers, so I would hide your faces until you are ready for a confrontation."
I nod, "We need a cloak to hide ourselves. I assume you can provide that."
"Of course," answered Frank. He leaves the room, gesturing for us to follow. My wolf didn't like following a lesser wolf's orders, but I pushed him down. It's not the time for a dominance fight. I followed Frank with Elijah behind me. I trust him to protect my back. We entered another room where Frank shoved two sets of clothes at us. "I think these will fit," tells us Frank. I nod my thanks and Frank leaves without another word. Apparently, he's just as uncomfortable with this as we are. I trust him more than Olivia or "grandma". Her face doesn't reveal anything and my experience says that anyone as welcoming as her has something to hide. It's the biggest distraction.
I turn to Elijah and ask, "Do you think we can trust them?"
"I don't think we have a choice," answers Elijah without wasting any words, "But I think we can. They care a lot for Mom, enough to not try to find her mates and tell them where she is. Our grandmother is hiding something as well."
"That was my read on the situation too. I just wanted to check what you thought," I explain.
We change into our new clothes in silence. They are a little tight, but we are well-built due to training. Mom often told us we looked older than 16 years old. Frank also had left two cloaks out for us. Those fit perfectly and hid our faces. I left first, leaving Elijah behind. He wanted to do some snooping around the house. I found Olivia and Mia chatting in the kitchen. I ask, "Can I join this conversation?"
"Of course, we are only discussing Mom's childhood," Mia tells me. Olivia continued the story I had previously interrupted, "Her and Amelia had snuck back into the house, hoping to trick us. Frank and I were waiting in her room for them. Their faces were precious, they were so shocked."
"Who is Amelia?" I wondered, curious.
Olivia turned to me, "Amelia was Olivia's best friend and she is now mated to the Beta of your fathers." That was a useful piece of information. I think that Amelia would help us if things go south. Either to help us escape or save mom, if they are as close as it appears. Friendship like that just doesn't disappear. Though Amelia might be salty that Mom hasn't talked to her in over sixteen years, I hope she might look past that for a short period of time.
I am perfectly willing to take on a powerful group of Hunters for mom's sake if no one wants to help. I am sure the others are of the same opinion. I think that's exactly why she sent us here. Mom knew that we would obey her. Given that those might be the last words, we will listen. If we don't, then try to free her and maybe even die, she will be so mad. And Mom mad is enough to even scare the devil. Elijah finally comes into the room, followed by Frank. I make eye contact with my brother to see if he found anything. A subtly shake of his head answers my unasked question. Something si strange about our grandparents, maybe it seems that they never searched for their daughter or asked how she is. But maybe I have a bias opinion, I can't think about this now. Frank said, "We need to head out now because if anyone is late without a good excuse, they spend two days in the pack dungeons."
Mia scoffs, "Harsh, much?"
Olivia nodded, "Like I said the twin Alphas became cold after their mate, I guess my daughter's disappearance. I don't understand why she would run from her mates. In her letter, she told us that her mate rejected her, but from my point of vue, the twins didn't do that." Her assumption pissed me off. She is bad-mouthing my mom, her own daughter. I abruptly stood up and told her, "She was drunk when she met them at the party. Mom slept with them and woke up the next day in bed alone with a simple note. That spells out rejection. Mom knew that she couldn't avoid them and didn't want to put herself through the pain of seeing them with others, so she ran. Everyone who have tried to convince her otherwise so she didn't talk to anyone. Don't make assumptions about things you don't know about!"
Frank was in a protective stance on front of his mate because of my yelling. I don't blame him, sometimes my temper gets the better of me. Was I personally a bit mad about Mom's decision when we found out? Hell yeah! But I understand and it's about me, not my grand parents, so they can leave it alone. Olivia immediately calmed him down before apologizing to me and my siblings, "I am sorry about my assumptions. I was just confused and did not mean for you to take things the wrong way." I simply nodded in recognition of her apology, not orally like she seems to want me too. I really don't like her.
Into the tense silence, Mia spoke, "We need to go, yeah?"
Frank shook his head yes and headed for the door. Mia sighed and followed, leaving Elijah and I behind her. I inwardly chuckle, it looks like Elijah and I are Mia's bodyguards or followers. It isn't far off from the truth. Mia got us in some much trouble when we were younger. She's very difficult to keep up with and I wish mercy upon the werewolf who would be her mate. But enough of that, it's time to crash a pack meeting.
