Wes’ POV

The lecture hall, for once, was filled with all the students that had registered for the class. A testament to how people thought the review class was going to save them once they’d been given the practice test.

Don’t think me self-righteous as I think this, I was no different, shuffling in with my laptop and highlighted textbook with Post-It notes over the sections that didn’t matter, formulas on chartreuse to catch my eye.

My tutor had bailed on me the moment it became clear that money might be a little…tight after Gigi’s death.

The family was panicking. Once the video had finished and I finalized my agreement to the stipulations of our family inheritance with a couple of initials and signatures, Mr. Ferris sealed the accounts. We—the Mondegos, the Dukes, the Savages, and a couple of other satellite families from the lesser valued branches—had been effectively cut off.

The limitless money that we’d enjoyed without so much as an afterthought was now gone.
