Chapter 42 : Confession

Wes’ POV

“Answer the question, Wes!”

I had half a mind to just throw her off the damn phone and carry on with finding Dee. Instead, I went for the jugular and ignored her. If there was one thing Eva hated more than anything in the world, it was to be considered drab, or not worthy of being noted. It reminded her too much of her mother. The woman’s agoraphobia made it so that when she passed, no one had ever really noticed. She was already a ghost even before she became one.

Eva had sworn to herself she’d never be forgotten like that, even when her father remarried that younger woman and got the son he’d always wanted. Even if she wasn’t every inch the business-savvy heir Delacroix wanted, she might not have accomplished her goals of being seen. But, even though she didn’t get away with nearly as much as her younger brother, Eva was still very much the apple of her father’s eye.
