Chapter 29 : Intruders at the Cabin

Mila, Lucas, and I, lay on the fur rug sprawled before the fireplace. I laid on one side of Mila, he laid on the other.

I had the same feeling I got from working outside on a cold day. The effects of exertion were real, but a curious energy crackled between the three of us.

“That was intense.”

Lucas and I agreed with Mila’s declaration at the same time.

“Yeah.”

“Damn straight it was.”

“I keep feeling like something should happen now.”

Mila rolled over onto her stomach, dark eyes reflecting the fire as it danced and crackled in the hearth.

“Like what?”

Mila shrugged at my question.

“I don’t know. I guess there’s no logical reason why anything would happen.”

“You know what it is?”

Mila and I turned our gazes toward Lucas. His bottom lip jutted out. Lucas’ eyes held a trace of annoyance.

“What?”

Lucas shook his head at my prompting.
