Chapter 31 : Harbinger of Change

I worked so many days in a row, one bled into another until time lost all meaning. The colder the weather became, the more animals came to the clinic.

I viewed the busy schedule as a great opportunity for experience. At least, that’s what I told myself, whenever I had time to ponder my existence.

I really have no life at all. I get up, shower, go to work, come home, sleep, repeat. I basically have no social life.

The clinic had become my life. The little bit of banter I had with the Vet techs and Dr. Wilma amounted to most of my human interaction.

The ranch seemed almost deserted those days, at least when I came home. The ranch hands were already in bed or close to it, as their days started before dawn. Lucas and Oliver were nowhere to be found most evenings. I wondered what had been keeping them both so busy so much of the time.
