Ethan
My heart pounded in my chest as I hit the accelerator. The truck moved forward a foot or two, allowing hope to surge in my breast.
The truck’s wheels struggled to gain purchase in the ever-deepening snow. The traction control alarm on the dash flashed on and off as we slowed to a stop.
“Come on, come on!”
We slid back into the ditch. I grimaced as I looked out the window.
“Did we make any progress at all?”
Mila glanced over at me.
“I think we’re actually a foot deeper in the ditch.”
I pounded my fist on the steering wheel and growled.
“When it’s not snowing, this is the tiniest, gentlest little drainage ditch. Now it’s an impassable barrier we need a Monster fucking truck to overcome.”
“Calm down, how bad can it be?”
I looked over at Mila. My heart raced for a whole different reason now.
God, she’s so lovely.
“How bad could it be?”
I shrugged.
