*Juliet*
“Juliet, come join me on the patio while your father makes us lunch.” My mom slides her arm through mine and we walk out to the patio. She winks at my dad before shutting him in the house. “He will probably be a while so let’s have a little chat.”
“What would you like to chat about?” I ask nonchalantly even though I am pretty sure the topic of conversation can be easily guessed.
“I just want to know how your summer has been going. I should have come out to see you sooner but I guess not that doesn’t matter since you will be here all the time!”
Mom laughs a beautiful tinkling laugh and it makes me smile. When I lean against her, she wraps her arm around me, squeezing me tightly.
“It makes me so happy that you have decided to stay. I know my parents bought this house with the intention of handing it down through the generations. I think they were hoping it would go to your kids or grandkids in the future as well.”
