Chapter 10: The World of Two is Completely Gone

Ella Lacey's room.

Sally Jefferson was bathing in the bathroom, the sound of running water echoing continuously. Turning off the shower, she called out, "Ella, can you get me a clean towel?"

"No problem!"

Ella searched high and low, but couldn't find a single towel. Then she remembered that she had been sleeping in Arthur Lindsey's room for the past few days, and she had moved all her hellokitty pink towels there.

"Sally, hold on a moment."

Ella was taken aback instantly.

Arthur's expression turned cold instantly. He said angrily, "Don't you know how to knock?"

Ella mumbled under her breath, muttering complaints about his absurd demand. The door was left ajar, so how was it her fault?

Nevertheless, she obediently went back to the door and knocked a few times.

Arthur stood where he was, tall and striking, coldly ordering, "Go back to sleep!"

"I just came to get my—"

At midnight, the moon outside the window was hidden behind the clouds, plunging the world into darkness.

Sally poked the person beside her, whispering, "Ella, Ella…"

Ella smacked her lips, scratched her arm, flipped over, and continued sleeping.

Only then did Sally relax, slip out of bed quietly, and tiptoed to Arthur's door.

At this time, the spacious Lindsey Family was quiet. Sally, barefoot, leaned against the door and listened to the subtle movements within. She could hear the faint allure of steady breathing.

The next morning.

During their wash-up, Ella pointed to Sally's panda eyes and expressed concern, "Sally, we didn't sleep late last night, but you have dark circles under your eyes."

Sally spat out the toothpaste foam in her mouth and rolled her clear, huge eyes. There was no way she could reveal what happened last night, so she deflected, "I... I have a habit of sleeping in familar places and you know it. I've been used to sleeping at home, I didn't sleep so well last night."

"Mhm, we're still like when we were little, always wanting our own beds. I'll get you some under-eye cream to cover it up," Ella did not overthink and continued her wash-up.

After they had freshen up and were heading down the stairs, the maid, Aunt Zhou, greeted them warmly, "Good morning, ladies. Please have breakfast in the dining room; it's ready."

Ella was surprised to see Aunt Zhou at home. Arthur Lindsey's commands seemed to supersede her mother's words.

Looking through the glass windows, the courtyard filled with falling flowers was being meticulously cleaned, with gardeners trimming the flowers, sweepers clearing the fallen leaves and maids wiping the glass outside the living room.

At the Lindsey mansion, everyone performed their duties accordingly. Everything was back to the sounds and scenes of before.

The world for just the two of them was completely gone.

As they sat down for breakfast together, Arthur read the newspaper. Ella, with nothing else to do, found Sally inching closer to Arthur. In a gentle voice, she proposed, "Today is the weekend and it's unusual that brother Arthur isn't heading to the company. Why don't you take Ella and I to Yunhai University? We can get a taste of campus life in advance, alright?"

As she looked hopefully at Arthur, his focus on the newspaper didn't waver at all, as though he hadn't heard her plea. With the morning light hitting his stern face, he was irresistibly alluring.

This man, he made Sally's heart race and ache at the same time.

His stubbornness and indifference never changed. Even though she had become a heart-throb to many boys, he barely batted an eye or lent an ear to her.

At this moment, Ella abruptly stood up, snatching the newspaper from Arthur's hands, and proposed seriously, "Arthur, you said in the castle that as long as I get admitted to Yunhai University, you'll let me into the mysterious castle again. Since that's so, you can take us around first. I'll read the newspaper to you in the car, okay?"

Sally was shocked by Ella's sudden move - she dared to snatch Arthur's newspaper? He loathed anyone touching his things!

Despite all her honeyed words, Sally believed they were mere noises to Arthur's ears. He'd definitely, furiously, push Ella away!

Her assumptions seemed pretty on point.

Arthur was seething, his obsidian-like eyes filled with an icy chill, an ominous sign of his breaking point.

But his response took everyone by surprise, "Of course - alright."
