Chapter 45: You Still Have Me

On hearing this, Louis Jefferson felt stunned, and wanted to ask her why.

However, he had always shown great respect towards Ella Lacey.

"Let's not go to school and return home." He steered the car around, driving into another intersection.

"Exactly, what's the point of going to school now? It's almost over." Sally Jefferson chimed in only after Louis had expressed his opinion, obviously just parroting what he had said.

They returned to the Jefferson Family home.

Everyone, from Amber Sherwood down to the maids, stared at Ella as if she were some sort of spectacle, giggling from time to time.

"Ella, what have you been through? You've cut your hair so short, you look like a tomboy. And it's all burnt as well, worse than straw from the countryside." Amber started the heckling.

"I bet Miss Ella is heartbroken. Haven't you seen what they say on the TV? Heartbreak can make one unrecognizable, even to one's own parents." One of the gossipy maids joined in enthusiastically.
