Ellen was lying there, looking very weak, but the pain in her body was nothing compared to the dagger of Dion's cold words.

Ellen couldn't figure him out. He would give hope, and then provide disappointment. When one was at the point of despair, he'd give warmth again.

This left Ellen feeling emotionally drained.

"You should get more sleep. The anesthesia just wore off - it will hurt soon."

"You should leave. It hurts more when you're here," Ellen said.

"It's a good thing you know pain," Dion responded indifferently, helping her tidy up, getting her some water and cleaning her face.

Ellen didn't have the energy to argue. She could only helplessly close her eyes, but with this man moving about within her sight, how was she supposed to get any sleep?
