"I've already clarified things with Juliette," Ray Chadwick replied.
The superior officer's face eased a bit, finally satisfied, "At least you did something right. You've been in the army for so many years without taking any leave, so this time I'll grant you a full month off. Take care of everything properly, I don't want to hear any rumors!"
"Otherwise, I'll hold you accountable!"
Ray Chadwick saluted his superior, turned, and left. As he crossed the threshold, he heard the leader pounding on the table behind him, "Hurry up and submit your marriage report!"
Marriage? It seemed, quite naturally, the logical next step.
However, as he said, he was reluctant to marry another woman right after breaking up with one, even if he would be morally justified in doing so.
After leaving the Chief's office, Ray Chadwick drove straight to the parking lot near the hospital.
He knew he couldn't go home yet, and there was nothing he needed to pack and take with him.
