The Bad Boy and I | Pt. 7

*WARNING: Mentions of domestic violence and drug abuse. Proceed with caution.*

The rays of sunshine decorated the dimly lit room, adding light to the almost lifeless atmosphere. If one were to look closely, they would see a person lying on the bed. The skeleton-like features and sore-looking eyes made it clear that this person was abusing substances.

Sarah lay there barely conscious. Her body was bruised and barely hanging on. She often wondered how everything went wrong. She could feel it in her soul that her destiny was supposed to be more than in a dump like this.

It had been a good five years since the night that started all this. Her world crumbled and the immense guilt that Adrian had poured onto her continued to eat at her heart.

It was her fault that they could no longer live without that pill sustaining their life. She was the one who turned Adrian into a monster.

"You're making less and less money! Where did that pretty face and body go!? You useless slut!" Adrain threw the stack of money that he recently acquired at her. His gaze burned with disgust. He blamed the person in front of him for taking away his perfectly planned life.

To think that I would be so blinded by this bitch! What the fuck was I thinking when I thought she was smart and beautiful!

When he woke up the morning after that incident, the horror he felt when he realized that the person he held so passionately wasn't Allison but Sarah. Regardless of the shock, he still felt like he had control over the situation.

It's just sex. Not that big of a deal as long as I still have Allison.

He tried to see Allison at her place after that but was threatened by her dad. The persistent headache he felt throughout the day nearly killed him. No painkillers would help alleviate the pain.

The headaches continued for a few days, rendering him bedridden, unable to do anything but lie there in silence. He was surprised when Sarah made a sudden visit to his place. In her hands was a bottle of "painkillers" that she was prescribed due to her also having persistent headaches.

The more he took them, the better he felt. His headaches were gone and his body felt more energetic. His attempts to woo Allison became more frequent after that. While putting up a gentle and loving image in front of her, he was abusing Sarah both mentally and sexually.

He couldn't focus on school and dropped out. His father who had high hopes for him becoming the new quarterback for their state university was disappointed. He was kicked out and had to find a new apartment to stay in. He couldn't care less because his whole attention was solely on getting Allison back.

Everything will be fine as long as I have her.

The frustrations he felt every time he was denied to see Allison, were all directed at the person who became his sexual partner. His world crumbled when he learned that Allison had relocated to a different country due to her father's business.

"WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL OF THE PILLS!? THIS FUCKING HEADACHE IS KILLING ME!" His hands grabbed at his head, squeezing it as he yelled at Sarah.

"That's...I don't have any more money..." She shrieked in shock when he yanked her towards him. His glare made her shiver in fear.

"ASK YOUR PARENTS TO HELP WITH THE PRESCRIPTION COSTS THEN!"

"I—I can't—!" She groaned in pain when his hands clenched tight around her shoulders. "Those pills aren't normal! I got them from drug dealers! My dad found out about it and kicked both me and mom out! AHH!"

"YOU FED ME FUCKING DRUGS!?" His hands slapped her face with all his might. "IT WAS BECAUSE OF YOU THAT MY LIFE HAS FALLEN APART!"

"I'm...I'm sorry—!" She felt her vision nearing a blackout. She could see stars from the second slap that she received.

"If you're so sorry then do something about it! Even if you have to sell yourself for those stupid drugs! Remember, you owe me! This is all your fault!"

With no other option, Sarah was forced into prostitution. Adrian started pimping her out for drugs and recently joined a gang to distribute drugs as well. That's how they ended up in their current situation.

She could barely focus on Adrian as she felt her mind slowly slip into darkness. Her body had already given up but her mind refused.

Is this how I die...?

She felt like her life was meant more than this moment. It wasn't fair. The person who should've ended up like this was Allison. Everything in her life was perfect until Allison showed up. The plans she had crumbled like a house of cards.

That bitch Allison. I should've killed her instead!

Her consciousness started fading and her mind dreamt of a future she felt should've been hers. The happy and successful life she lived in her dreams accompanied her until she took her last breath.

"Did you hear about that Adrian being arrested?" It had been a long time since they all got together. "I heard that she recently passed from an overdose or something."

"I know you like to gossip, Jada. But keep that for later. Stop ruining the mood by bringing up those assholes." Karina was as straightforward as ever. "I was very surprised when I heard that you were in town."

"There was a flower I wanted to buy." Her long hair blew gently in the wind. Her eyes lazily stared at the coffee in front of her.

"Now I'm sad. I thought you flew all the way here to see me!" Laura playfully complained as she blatantly stared. "You were a beauty before...but seeing you like this is very..."

They all nodded in agreement. The youthfulness had faded and was replaced with a more mature look. Her eyes felt distant and cold, yet mysterious and captivating. Her lips curled into a devious smirk.

Tora stirred her coffee half-heartedly. Her mind wandered to when she had just landed causing her lips to curl up into a smirk.

'Walk carefully. You should stop looking at your phone while walking.' Asier had randomly sent his first message since that night five years ago.

She couldn't help it. Her hands continued to scroll through the article about the success behind the game that's taken over the world. There was even an interview segment with the CEO of the company.

To think that he would go and create his own gaming company...By the way, where have you been, Asier?

'I didn't go anywhere.'

Thinking of that message pissed her off again. Her smirk turned into a frown. She threw her spoon back into the coffee cup and sighed.

"What's wrong...?" Karina reached over and grabbed her hands to inspect it. "Did the coffee burn you or something?"

"I'm fine."

"That's good." She felt odd that Karina was still treating her in such a protective way. She had thought that five years was more than enough to change a person. "I'm really glad you left the country with Monsieur. You have no idea how many times that creep tried to get in your house."

"Adrian tried to break in!?" Laura and Jada both shivered at the news. "Why are you just telling us this!!!?"

"Sorry! I didn't want you guys to worry about it. Especially, Allie!" Karina shivered. "I had to threaten him with the cops a few times! He didn't seem quite right in the head. He was definitely planning on doing something awful!" Her hands made motions around her head, indicating that he was crazy.

"I'm so glad he's behind bars now!"

The four continued to chat until it was time for dinner. They all bid farewell with a promise to meet again next week.

She prepared a quick meal for herself, showered, and flopped on the bed. She had been feeling extremely tired since earlier.

I didn't keep track of what happened to Sarah and Adrian since leaving the country. To think that the main characters would be reduced to just this...

She felt a grin escaping her. It would be a lie to say that she wasn't happy. For the first time in a long while, she could finally sleep in peace. She was haunted by the thought that Sarah and Adrian would somehow manage to turn their life back around, resulting in the plotline resuming. But after the news of her passing and his incarceration, her soul felt free of guilt, anger, anxiety, and sadness.

I haven't seen him in five years, I wonder if he still thinks of me. After all, he's a big shot now...

Her eyes felt extremely heavy and she started drifting off.

'He thinks about you every day.'
