Missing

I lazily got off my bed and walked into the bathroom to freshen up, and after I was done with hygiene, I walked back to my room and looked at the empty spot which was once occupied by a pod, with conflicted feelings.

I wasn't sure if the pod explosion was because the pod was faulty, or because I wasn't from this world... Maybe the pod was designed for humans alone, and because I'm not a whole human, the codings would always crash and cause a bang.

I was feeling bored and decided to take a walk around the estate, so I put a lite cloth on and shook my pistol into my pants pocket. Then walked out of my room and to Emma's room door, to inform her of my whereabouts.

As I raised my clenched fist to knock on the door, I suddenly felt the atmosphere become stuffy and weird, and I heard a low authoritative voice coming from Emma's room.

"Emma Cantrell, you have been summoned, do you accept the call?" I heard the low authoritative voice said calmly.

"I do..." I heard Emma's voice reply.

And the stuffy and weird atmosphere dispersed as suddenly as it came, and Emma's room fell dead silent. At that same moment, I felt a strong urge that I was forgetting something important, and the scene of a man in a lab coat, with a bloody bullet wound to his head, flashed my mind.

I was very confused and didn't understand what I had just heard and felt, and tried to recall the scene that flashed my mind... But only got a sharp painful headache in return. I listened carefully for any sound coming from Emma's room, and suddenly began hearing ticking sounds.

I walked back to my room in confusion and laid on my bed. I couldn't remember anything that happened after I shook my pistol into my pants pocket, and couldn't even remember walking up to Emma's room. I strongly believed it was stress like the doctor had told Emma, and decided to cancel my plans for heading out for a walk, so I could rest well, and avoid over stressing my brain.

Sitting around a black exquisite six seater glass dinning table, was a family of four. A middle a man was sitting at one end, at the other end was a younger woman, and at one side was a boy and girl, who looked to be the same age with striking resemblance, and were both gray haired and gray eyed.

"Honey, a friend of mine who works as a prison guard, tipped me off that the boy who previously lived next door, that got sentenced to life imprisonment for homicide, have been reportedly missing for two days now" The middle aged man who sat at one end of the dinning table said grimly.

"So...? He's probably dead" The younger woman at the other end of the dinning table replied casually.

"It's not as simple as that" The man said with a bitter smile.

"Please elaborate..." The woman replied casually again.

"He went missing after he got escorted out to see a visitor, and never came back again. And when the friend of mine raised the matter to his superiors... They cautioned him not poke his nose in such matters again" the man explained.

*Silence*

The previous sounds of cutlery clinging on ceramic plates instantly paused, "Are you sure he's not kidding you" The woman asked with a serious tone.

"That's not even all, that friend of mine made a secret investigation, and discovered that the guard who escorted the boy to see the visitor, was also seen escorting the boy out of the prison building. And the guard who did all that, was never seen before that day, and after that day... He was never a prison guard there" The man said like he was trying to crack a mystery.

"What if he comes for our daughter, Claire" The woman said in a panicked tone.

"That's the exact same reason I brought up this matter" The man said, while staring in a direction unblinkingly, like he was deep in thoughts.

"Mom, I can protect my sister" The gray haired boy said.

"Shut your mouth, you're like a mosquito before someone who could shoot a CIA agent without thinking twice. That boy is a psycho" The woman shushed her son.

"Mom!" The boy called out in embarrassment.

"What do you suggest we do Claire?" The man turned to look at his daughter.

"He didn't try to hurt me last time, so what makes you people think he'll do that now. Besides, I wasn't the one who testified against him" The gray haired girl said with a smile and glanced at her mom.

"Oh my gosh, that's true" The woman exclaimed with a shocked expression, then quickly stood up and began running for the stairs which led to the top floor.

"You shouldn't say such things to your mother, where are you going honey?" The man cautioned his daughter, and asked his wife who was running up the stairs.

"I'm calling the police, and some private investigators" She echoed from the top floor.

*Knock*

"Go away!" I screamed out from below my blanket.

"Dinner is ready, don't you want to taste my cooking?" Emma's voice seeped in from the other side of the door.

"What's on the menu?" I asked with a bored tone.

"Spaghetti and meatballs" She replied.

"Well, too bad. I'm a vegetarian" I replied while adjusting my position to feel more comfortable on my bed.

"Ooh, then what would you like eat?" She asked.

"You wouldn't be so bad, would you?" I replied with a naughty tone.

"Well, too bad. I'm not a vegetable" She replied with a chuckle.

*Ring*

The landline in the living room began ringing, and I heard Emma receding footsteps. I was about to go back to sleep when I heard a soft knock on the door.

"What's it this time..." I was saying.

*Bang*
