A Cure

Lisa woke up to the chirping of the sparrows, a fresh wind blew her hair on her face, it was a gentle sensation but then the bright scorching sunlight displeased her.

"Ugh!" She rushed to the window and pulled down the curtain.

She tiptoed her way downstairs, wanting to spy on Edgar only to find him talking on a phone call.

This was surprising for her that she could hear the voice on the call from such a distance.

"Why are you so ashamed of yourself? You are not the only vampire who turned someone? Some of us even proudly brag about it! Come on it's just a girl!" The voice on the phone said.

"Well, I am not every vampire! This is the point! For you, she is nothing more than a meatloaf, but she isn't! She is a girl, a sister, a daughter! But you wouldn't get it would you?" Edgar was ashamed of his act.

"I want to do something before Lunarian finds her, if he does, she is dead!" He added.

Lisa covered her mouth she was scared then she heard the voice on the phone.

"What aren't you telling me?" Ben asked.

"I will tell you everything once I get there! But believe me when I say, If I didn't stop Lunarian, every life is at stake, human or vampire, witches, and every other supernatural being is in danger." Edgar said.

"If that is the case, I can't help you but there is a woman who might!" Ben answered "I am pretty sure I heard her say something about a cure once" He added.

"Cure? For a vampirism?" Edgar left his seat in excitement.

"Just gimme a minute I'll send you her number, just don't mention my name!" Ben said and hung up right away.

Edgar turned back smiling when he saw Lisa smiling standing by the wall, his smile slowly disappeared from his face.

"I talked to a friend…" He didn't have to say anything, she approached him with a big smile on her face.

"A cure, I heard that!" She was overjoyed "Thank you so much." She pressed her lips to compress her smile.

Edgar couldn't maintain eye contact anymore, and that's when his phone vibrated, it was Ben.

"Oh-uh!" Edgar's face turned flat.

"Okay, now you are scaring me!" She was staring at him.

"I will tell you on the way, just keep a few things in your mind, don't leave my sight and…" He reached out for his pocket and took out a small flask of some water in it "Hold it!" He said, "Smell it whenever you feel drawn toward a human's blood!"

"What is in this bottle?" She looked at it closely.

"It's water, water has a smell, that's indescribable, only the ones who have super-smelling senses can smell it!" He rushed inside and took out a bag carrying some things in it that might come in handy in their travels.

He got out of the room and took out his car keys from a drawer "Let's go!" Edgar turned around and saw Lisa smelling the water in the bottle already.

She had her eyes closed and she was so lost in it.

"Lisa?" Edgar called out to her.

"It smells like… it smells like rain, a first drop landing on the leaf" She inhaled deeper "Sliding down from it, gathering all its essence with it, it smells like life awakening in the root of a dying flower, it smells like… like heaven!" She smiled, opening her eyes.

"Let's go!" She hid the flask in her pocket, hanging Edgar's bag on her shoulder.

She seemed happy, Edgar smiled behind her back and followed her, they sat in the car and left.

On the way, she cleared her throat trying to catch his attention.

"You wanna say something, you can say it!" Edgar's eyes were still on the road.

"I am not a rude person! I was just… I was just tensed, I shouldn't have said that, that was bad, in fact, I am a fun-loving girl!" She said.

"Hmm!" He responded.

"And it seems that you're not!" She thought.

"Hmm!" This time he did it louder.

"Oh yeah I forgot, you can hear thoughts!" She smiled. Right after she sniffed out loud "Do you smell that?" She looked around.

"Yes!" Edgar stopped the car and looked around, "This isn't tempting you?" He asked.

She nodded "No!" She said.

He peeked on the back seat, "It's coming from the bag!" He reached out to it and unzipped the bag, "Did you put this here?" He showed her an hourglass.

It was a beautiful golden hourglass with blood in it but what made it more beautiful was the engravings on it and the fact that this hourglass had three portions.

Lisa nodded claiming to be unaware of its presence.

"How did it get in here? Whose hourglass is this?" He flipped it upside down not knowing how or when it affected Lisa.

She held her chest as her head started spinning, she moaned with pain.

Edgar quickly sat the hourglass on the dashboard of the car "Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, I guess!" She felt better "You turned it upside down, that's why I felt this way" She glanced at the hourglass.

"What? That can't be possible, it is just a…" He knew she could be right "An hourglass filled with blood?" He added.

She rested her head on the headrest of the seat again "I feel weak, I haven't had any food at all, I feel… like…" She fainted before she could even say what she was saying.

He patted her cheek, but she wouldn't wake up, he poured a little bit amount of water in his hand and splashed it on her face.

She woke up heavily breathing.

"You can't stay like this, we need to find a solution" He was feeling restless.

"Let me die if I must but don't make me feed on a human" She muttered.

"Human!" Edgar's eyes widened "Exactly!" He looked around and saw a public toilet by a gas station "Come with me!" He got out of the car and opened the door for her.

"Where?" She raised her eyes despite her heavy eyelids.

"Trust me!" He lent his hand to let her hold it as she stood up.

The owner at the gas station blocked his way "Woah! You can't take drugs here!" As soon as the man said, the only thing Edgar did was stare him in his eyes, and the man acted like a puppet, he turned around and walked back to his work.

Edgar held Lisa's hand and took her inside the toilet "What are you doing?" Lisa was confused and nervous.

"You can't have human blood! And I am not asking you to have it but!" Edgar pulled up his sleeve and opened his mouth, Lisa saw his fangs slipping out from the gums and then he bit his wrist, he offered it to Lisa.

The smell of his blood was so tempting that she couldn't stop herself even if she wanted to, Her eyes turned darker and her fangs came out too.

She held his forearm and sank her fangs in his wrist, he squirmed as the first sip of blood travelled through her tongue, all the way to her throat, it was a strange sensation.

She held his wrist and rested her back on his chest, he closed his eyes, they both were feeling something they hadn't experienced before.

He opened his eyes, her peacefulness was attracting him at that moment, he tucked her hair behind her ear and she continued to fulfill her desire, to bring her thirst to peace.

He felt her lips getting softer now, before they were all dried up it was maybe because she was gaining her strength back.

He felt as if he was on drugs, all he wanted was to let her drain him, and he rested back his head on the wall as she rested her head on his chest and her fangs deep in his flesh.

She opened her eyes and saw his hand turning pale, Her fangs sunk back and she looked up at him, his eyes were half closed, he looked drunk, he emitted a deep breath.

"Why didn't you stop me?" She asked.

His skin started to gain back its colors before her eyes "It's hard to explain!" She saw his hand healing up by itself.

They exited the toilet afterward, the man who stopped them earlier was still busy cleaning the floor.

This time Lisa was walking faster than Edgar.

"You seem fine!" Edgar started the car.

"I feel fresh!" She was all smiles, and that was her face to the rest of her way.

While she was enjoying the fresh winds Edgar was still lost, he was still feeling that tingling in the depth of his skin, he hadn't calmed his goosebumps yet when her eyes fell on his arm, she was mesmerized by her vision she could see every hair, every pore on his skin.

She gently landed her fingers on his forearm, gliding all the way to his wrist, This made him tighten his grip on the steering wheel, a sweet wave of shiver traveled down his spine and his eyes widened.
