Chapter - 39 - Jealousy
The reason why he so easily accepted Tang Li in the first place was because she was his wife and he felt responsible for her.
He knew what it was like to be mistreated, just like Tang Li, so he saw her as someone who had experienced similar hardships.
As he got to know her better, seeing her support and stand up for him made him appreciate her even more as his wife.
Right now he was very satisfied to have Tang Li as his wife.
"Move out of the way," Yi Minghuan coldly told Xiao Ru, his brow furrowing.
"Why are you acting like this? I'm a woman, and you shouldn't treat me this way. You have no manners!" Xiao Ru fumed. She stomped her feet and bit her lips while her eyes turned red.
What's the matter with him? He might be good-looking, but his temper was far from good. She shouldn't like him at all!
"Minghuan!" Tang Li rushed over at that moment, panting as she looked at the two of them. "Ru, what's going on?"
"Li, do you know him? Who is he?" Xiao Ru's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she complained quietly, "You won't believe it; this guy has such a temper. I asked for his name, and he told me to go away."
"Ru, he's my husband, Yi Minghuan," Tang Li said with a smile, not thinking much of Xiao Ru's odd tone.
She went to stand by Yi Minghuan's side and instinctively defended him, like a protector.
"He's just like that; he doesn't talk much. Please don't take offense."
"What?!" Xiao Ru exclaimed, staring at Tang Li in shock. She cried out sharply, "You said he's your husband?!"
"....That's right," Tang Li responded, bewildered by Xiao Ru's reaction. "Is there a problem?"
"No, it's nothing. I'm just surprised," Xiao Ru forced a casual tone, even though her heart ached.
"I thought he was an educated youth from the city."
The man she had a crush on turned out to be Tang Li's husband.
How could she accept that?
She bit her lip, casting a glance at the plump and unattractive Tang Li and then at the tall and handsome Yi Minghuan.
No matter how she looked at it, they didn't seem like a good match. It was as if a toad was paired with a swan.
Of course, the toad referred to Tang Li, and the swan referred to Yi Minghuan.
"He's been away for a while, so he doesn't quite look like a villager," Tang Li explained with a smile, tugging at Yi Minghuan's clothes as she introduced him.
"Husband, this is Xiao Ru, an educated youth from the capital. We're in the same production team."
Tang Li intentionally omitted the fact that Xiao Ru was her friend and that they used to be close.
"Hello," Yi Minghuan nodded politely and greeted Xiao Ru.
However, this only made Xiao Ru feel even more upset. She was angry and jealous because Yi Minghuan had completely ignored her earlier, but now, he was greeting her for Tang Li's sake.
This showed that he had great respect for Tang Li and genuinely cared about her.
Why?! Why?!
Tang Li was overweight, not conventionally attractive, uneducated, and seemed submissive.
On the other hand, Xiao Ru was slim, beautiful, and had completed high school.
She was a hundred times better than Tang Li, but Yi Minghuan didn't even spare her a glance.
Xiao Ru didn't realize that Yi Minghuan and Tang Li were married and that he had nothing to do with her.
She couldn't see past her jealousy and couldn't appreciate that Yi Minghuan was simply being a gentleman.
Unfortunately, blinded by envy, Xiao Ru failed to grasp this reality.
Comparing herself to Tang Li, all she could feel was frustration and jealousy.....
