Chapter - 38 - Meeting Minghuan

"...Sure, I'll do it for you," Xiao Ru replied with a fake smile, though she was actually fuming inside.

She had no choice but to suffocate and agree if she wanted Tang Li's help in the future.

"You're so kind, Ru!" Tang Li grinned, fully aware that Xiao Ru was reluctant but couldn't refuse.

Xiao Ru was seething with anger!

Not only did she not get what she wanted, but she also ended up agreeing to work for Tang Li.

She felt utterly useless!

Unable to bear it any longer, Xiao Ru said her goodbyes and walked away.

She hadn't gone far when she bumped into Yi Minghuan, who emerged from a nearby alley carrying firewood.

Lost in her thoughts about Tang Li, Xiao Ru was taken aback by Yi Minghuan's sudden appearance.

She let out a startled gasp. "Ah!"

Yi Minghuan swiftly stepped back, narrowly avoiding a collision. Their paths diverged just in time.

Xiao Ru looked up at Yi Minghuan in shock, her heart skipping a beat. Her cheeks flushed a deep shade of red.

For a moment, she forgot all about Tang Li and the recent unpleasantness.

She forgot about everything around her; all she could see was the person standing before her.

For the first time, Xiao Ru experienced the feelings she had only read about in books: her cheeks burned, and her heart raced at the sight of a single person.

Excitement coursed through her!

This tall, handsome man with deep eyes seemed like the perfect embodiment of her dream partner!

Since when did such a dashing young man exist in their village?

Judging by his demeanor, he must be an educated youth from another commune, right?

She wondered which city he hailed from. It would be amazing if he were from the capital; they could be from the same place.

Once they returned to the city, who knew what the future might hold?

Countless thoughts raced through Xiao Ru's mind, and she couldn't help but daydream about the possibilities.

Yi Minghuan, on the other hand, regarded her with indifference. Not recognizing her, he prepared to continue on his way.

As Yi Minghuan began to leave, Xiao Ru, suppressing her shyness, nervously stopped him and asked, "Hey! Wait a minute. Where are you from? Are you one of those educated youth here to help build the country?"

Yi Minghuan halted and turned to her with a strange expression.

He replied indifferently, "No."

With that, he turned away and left, with his usual cold demeanor.

Xiao Ru watched him go after that one-word response.

In her haste, she wasn't concerned about embarrassment. She ran up to him and even blocked his path, extending her arms to keep him in place. She fired off a barrage of questions:

"You're not from the city, so you must be from this village, right? I've been here for three years and know everyone in the village, but I've never seen you before. What's your name, and which family are you from?"

Yi Minghuan was irritated by her interrogation, his handsome face growing even colder. He thought it was none of her business.

Yi Minghuan's aloofness stemmed from a childhood marked by rejection and abuse at the hands of his relatives.

He had learned to cherish solitude and avoid taking the initiative to approach anyone.

Before leaving home, he had always been a solitary soul.

However, during his time in the army, he underwent various trainings and found teachers and companions who changed his outlook on life.

His teacher had taught him what it meant to be a real man and the responsibilities that came with it. This teacher had guided him to become the person he was today....
