CHAPTER 16

Alisha Chuma (POV)

As I drove the car through the gates of a place that I was most proud of, I couldn’t help but feel as if the world was just right at my feet.

I couldn’t be blamed after all I sweated and sacrificed just too much to be where I was.

Did I regret everything I did to be where I am today? Honestly, that word didn’t even exist in my library.

Regretting was only for the weak hearted. Once a decision is made, then whatever comes next is something that an individual should be prepared for.

To think that at some point, I was a nobody who couldn’t even get into other people’s eyes, and yet today, people were fawning over me. From the oldest to the youngest.

That’s what life was like. People tend to respect the rich and big shots. If you are a pauper, people will not even bother to remember your name.

And honestly, the thought of being forgotten and erased from people’s memories wasn’t something that I loved very much.

So, in order to keep them invested, I always made sure that I kept myself burning and let them know that I hadn’t shaken yet.

When I drove through the gates, the security guards at the gate saluted me and I just honked at them in return.

On the driveway I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at several teenagers walking groups wearing a uniform I was very proud of.

The place where I was going was the institution I worked tirelessly for in the past two decades.

As the owner and founder of Regent Sawyer Private Institution, there were so many nights I couldn’t get any sleep because I needed to make my dream come true.

The institution consisted of pre-school, primary school, secondary, and high school in one.

It was also a private school and very expensive. Not all families could afford to pay my school fees, and that was something that didn’t bother me.

If a parent wants to give his or her child the best, then they should be willing to spend more.

My mother sacrificed a lot to provide a better future for me, and I am grateful for that.

As much as public schools are good and cheap, they won’t be able to provide kids with other pieces of knowledge that might be crucial for survival in life. And she was there to provide what a child will really need in society rather than following the normal and boring syllabus.

The school colors were black, white, maroon, cream-white, and gold. And that was for the main school uniforms and tracksuits.

Every school had its own yard, so it was rare for kindergartens to be mixed with primary school students.

However, if given permission, the other students could travel and visit the other yards with supervision, of course.

I drove towards the exclusive parking lot. As the owner of the school, my love for dropping by the school several times a week was well known in the school.

And despite being the principal, I hired a dean who took care of the school business whenever I was not around.

With so many businesses to take care of, I needed someone to help me. Which was why even if I were to not going to school, I wouldn’t be worried about it not functioning without me.

That is why one should find capable subordinates to lessen the workload for you.

After parking my car under the cool shed, I got out of the car and took out my bag from the back seat.

I looked at the parking lot and smiled brightly. There were several private cars already there which belonged to the administration staff.

With me paying them so much, it would be a wonder if they couldn’t afford even the cheapest second-hand car.

And cars at my school were sort of badge of honor. And only a few teachers were still using public transport, which would be changing in the future. I was going to make sure of it.

With my bag in hand, I began to make my way towards the main building where my office was located. On my way there, I came across several teachers who stopped on the way to greet me.

I returned their greetings with a warm smile on my face without stopping.

After walking for several minutes, I finally reached my office, which was closed. I opened the door and walked inside. The sweet fragrance hit my nose as soon as I walked in.

I couldn’t help but smile, noticing how clean and tidy the place was.

“It seems that I should increase the cleaner’s salary,” I mused as I observed the spotless office.

I was a bit of a clean freak and hated to find my office dirty, especially on a Monday morning. And the cleaners were aware of that and always made sure that my office was on point every single day.

Since it was a Monday, there were always a lot of things to do. Starting from the assembly with kids, weekly meetings, and all that. And with Easter approaching the following week, there was so much that needed to be done.

The children would be going for a holiday and during that time, the school would be closed, but that won’t mean that everything would be shut off. And all that preparation needed to be finished before it started.

I fished out a diary from my bag and began to go through it, since I had jotted everything down that I needed to talk about during the assembly.

Only thirty minutes were remaining before the first assembly of the week started, so I had to get prepared.

And just like that, time quickly flew and soon I was on my way to the assembly hall for the primary and high school students.

For the preschoolers or kindergartens, there was no assembly, for most of the kids were young and wouldn’t understand anything.

But for those studying in those two schools, that was another case.

And it was going to be another long day.
