Chapter 7: The First Time

The summer breeze flowed through the forest as Luna looked out the window of the carriage, "How long till we reach AcornWall?" she asked the coachman who led the Eapidash down the Route. 

  The older man turned back to face Luna, "Only a few more hours!"

  Luna smiled, "Great! Thank you."

Luna was excited to get back home and show off her Pokemon to her mother. It had barely been more than a week since she left home, but she realized how easily she missed her mom, who was like a best friend to her.

  Luna pet Casper's and Slither's heads as they lay sleeping on the seat next to her inside the cozy carriage. "You two worked hard out there yesterday, I'm so proud of you."

  "Oh, I forgot to let Mom and Professor Maple that I was coming home!"

Luna quickly pulled out her PokePhone and dialed her mother, after a few rings a voice answered on the other end, "Hello! Moon residence! Holly speaking."

  "Hi, Mom!" Luna spoke high-pitched, excited to hear her mom's voice again.

  "Luna!? How are you? How's your journey going?"

  "It's going great! I earned...? Yeah, I earned my first gym badge from GullCoast City!"

  "Oh my goodness! Already!? That's amazing, Sweetie! Where are you now?"

  "Actually, that's what I wanted to call you about, Mom. I'm coming back home for a day or two before I head to Boulder Creek Village."

  Her mom gasped lightly, "That sounds wonderful baby! When are you going to be here?"

  "In a couple of hours! I hope it's not too short of a notice, I was going to stop by Professor Maple's Lab on the way home to check in with her."

  "Oh, Perfect! I have to head over to her Lab anyways to drop her purse off to her!"

  "Her purse? Why do you have her Purse?" Luna sounded confused.

  "S-She stopped by last night to have a couple of drinks and watch 'Housewives of Castelia'. We found out it's both of our favorite shows and we made a girl's night out of it!"

  "Oh! Well, that's awesome, I'm happy you found a friend in Professor Maple!"

  "Me too! So, I will meet you at Maple's Lab when you get here, okay sweetie?"

  "Sounds great! Bye Mom, Love you!" 

  "Love you too!" Holly sounded very happy as she ended the call.

  Luna looked back out the window, she stared out at the beautiful forest scenery as she thought, "I wanted to leave home for so long, I never thought I'd miss it this much..." 

  A few hours later the carriage pulled up to Professor Maple's Lab. The outside of the building didn't have many windows and was mostly blank with beige paint. Luna remembered that the local jail had been relocated and they sold this building to Professor Maple, who did her best to remodel the building, but she was a busy woman and didn't quite care if the outside of the building looked shabby.

  "Here we are, Luna!" the coachman called out before Luna stepped out of the Carriage with Slither and Casper following close behind. 

  "Thanks for the ride! Have a great day!" Luna waved goodbye to the man and the Rapidash as she made her way inside the Lab.

  The sound of laughter filled the back of the Lab as Luna walked inside, at the table towards the back of the Lab sat her mother, Holly, and the Professor gossipping and laughing together. 

  Holly wiped a tear from her eye after laughing too hard and noticed her daughter walk into the Lab, Holly quickly stood up. Luna's mother had dark black hair put up into a bun, she looked young for her age, and she had a bit larger of a chest than her daughter, which drove Luna mad. Holly's hips swayed as she rushed to her daughter and held her tightly in her arms.

  "Luna, my baby!" she buried her daughter in a barrage of kisses.

  Maple walked towards the two, her short green hair bobbed walked. She didn't have an exact "Curvy" figure or a "Bountiful" chest, but she had a unique charm to her as she lowered her spectacles to examine Luna's Pokemon, "I see that you've added another friend to your group, great job Luna!"

  "Thanks Professor!" Luna got out as she was being smothered by her mother.

  "Come, let's examine them and see how they are progressing." Maple led the two Pokemon to a large white pad on the floor towards the back. 

  Luna and her mother followed shortly after. The pad lit up beneath the Pokemon and their health statistics showed up on the screen above the Pokemon.

  Maple examined her Togetic and read his stats. "Casper leveled up quite a bit, good job there. He should learn a new move soon." 

  "That's great to hear!" Luna replied happily.

  Maple then read the Salandit's stats before looking back at the Pokemon with a weird look, "What's this one's name?"

  "Slither. He can be a handful when he's hungry!" Luna giggled.

  Maple bent down to examine the Pokemon, "Luna, can you ask your friend to heat up his tail?"

  Luna nodded to Slither, signaling him to listen to Maple's request. Slither did as he was asked and heated up his tail, the red line going down the back of his tail lit up, the area around it growing warmer. 

  "That is odd. Open up, little one." Maple placed her hand softly underneath Slither's chin as he opened his mouth wide, showing off his slick red tongue and the rest of his mouth. 

  "Is there something wrong, Professor?" Luna piped up.

  "There's an abnormality but, nothing life-threatening." Maple examined the inside of Slither's mouth. She pats the Pokemon on the head before standing up and adjusting her glasses, "The first thing that threw me off was that, your Salandit should know Poison Fang by now along with two other Poison-type moves. Usually when Salandit's heat up their tails they give off a sweet smell due to the poison that lingers in that part of the body that flows from their venom glands."

  "So what was wrong?" Luna cocked her head.

  "It didn't smell like anything, which can happen sometimes if their venom glands aren't activated for a while. But when I went to check the back of Slither's throat, where his venom glands are, I couldn't find them."

  "Y-you can't find them?"

  "Salandit is the Toxic Lizard Pokemon, and he has no Venom Glands. Their tongues are usually coated in a thick purple saliva that stuns anything they lick, it also helps with digestion."

Luna quickly thanked Arceus that he didn't have poison glands, because if he did, her first night in GullCoast City would have ended much differently with how much he was licking her.

  "I'm afraid it looks that way. Was he with a group when you found him?"

  "Not at all, he was scavaging through a dumpster all alone when we found him."

  "Salandit usually travels in groups, he must have been abandoned by his troupe for this reason."

  "It also seems that he's lost his Poison Typing. He's probably one of the world's only singular Fire-type Salandit."

  Slither looked blankly, seeming unfazed by the news.

  Luna raised a brow, "They may have left him for another reason..." 

  Maple looked down at the derpy Pokemon, "Perhaps..."

  "Anyways, that's good to know, I can adjust our strategies up a little bit but nothing too drastic!" Luna pet her Pokemon and stood up, "Thank you for the help, Professor!"

  "You're welcome, it's not every day that you get to see such a unique Pokemon, so I am rather content. Please bring him back whenever you're in town, I would adore seeing his development."

  "It's a deal!"

  "Alright, you two! Let's go get some coffee!" Holly, energetic like her daughter, leaped at Luna's back and hugged her tightly.

  Maple pointed to herself, unsure, "You want me to come as well?"

  "Of course we do! Right, Luna?" Holly shook her daughter softly. 

  "That would be great! I know you two already get along, I'd love to be better friends with you too Professor!"

  Maple blushed shyly, "Alright then, I will join you."

  Luna returned her Pokemon into their Pokeballs and traveled to the Local Cafe with her Mother and Maple in tow.

  They arrived at the Cafe and sat down at a table while they drank their coffee.

  Holly took a big sip before putting her cup down, "So tell us, Luna! Get any action out in GullCoast City?"

  Maple Immediately blushed as Luna spit out her drink, "M-Mom!?"

  "Oh come on, Luna!" Holly rolled her eyes, "You're a young woman and, we're not ones to judge! Are we Maple?"

  Maple stayed quiet as she drank her coffee, "I'm not one to leak secrets." She too looked to Luna for details.

  "I was only gone a week! I was too busy trying to be a Pokemon Trainer!" Luna clamored.

  "Hmm." Holly stared at Luna's red face, "You're lying. You got lucky at some point."

  "W-What!?" Luna barked, "I'm still a virgin mom!" Luna quickly closed her mouth as all the nearby patrons looked in their direction. 

  Maple smiled, "Well that's not a bad thing either, it's best to share your first time with someone you truly trust."

  Luna sighed and nodded with a smile, "Yeah, I agree. We haven't had company over in forever, plus I'm only in town until tomorrow, so I could go for a home-cooked meal."

  Maple smiled, "A-Alright then, that sounds lovely."

As the trio walked back towards Luna's suburban home she felt comforted as she watched her usually lonesome mother talk to a new friend. It had been a few years since her father had passed away and she noticed that it had impacted her mother the hardest. But now, it seemed like she had her old mom back. The way she so nonchalantly talked about her and Luna to Maple made Luna happy to see their budding friendship.

  When the three got to their suburban home, Luna ran upstairs to jump on her bed. She leaped onto the large comforter and embraced the soft feeling of her bed.

  "Okay." Luna sat down at the table across from Professor Maple.

  "Do you cook often, Holly?" asked Maple.

  "All the time!" replied the mother as she chopped up vegetables at the counter, "Luna is pretty good at it too! She'll make a good wife someday!"

  "W-what is with you trying to get me married...?" Luna sighed.

  "Can you blame me? I want grandkids! I'm thirty-seven, we don't have forever!" replied her mother.

  "You say that like that's an elderly age." Maple joked.

  "It's not too late for you to have kids of your own either, Maple!" Holly pointed at the professor.

  Maple blushed and put her hand to her cheek, "Men have never been my thing, but having a kid would be nice..."

  "Artificial insemination is always an option!" 

  Luna placed her hand on Maples in a friendly manner, "I think you would make a great mom, Maple."

  Maple looked up, genuinely surprised, and smiled with a red face, "Thank you, Luna. It means a lot to me to hear you say that." She then winked at her, "If you get hitched our kids can be best friends."

  Luna pulled back and snorted while she laughed, "Not you too!"

  The women all laughed together in their cozy home, enjoying one another's company. After they had sat together and had dinner, Luna went up to her room to relax while Holly and Maple sat downstairs in the living room as they got comfortable with a bottle of wine and watched a movie.
