Chapter 5

My sister's wedding was today, and as expected of the first daughter, I had to wake up early and finish up the preparations. I couldn't find Aurora anywhere; it was still early, so she wasn't up yet.

I entered the room where my sister was sleeping peacefully. A pink mark was on her fair neck. Unlike me, my sister had found her mate, and he wasted no time in claiming her.

The wedding happening today was just a formality, as the main event was the mark on her neck.

I tapped her gently to wake her up, but she wasn't budging.

"Elle. Elle," I called out her name.

"Huh?" She opened one eye and looked at me before turning to face the wall. She took some time before she jumped up. I think it dawned on her that her wedding was today.

"Good morning, Stacy," she greeted sweetly.

"Good morning, Elle. Come on, let's get you dressed before it's late," I said, giving her a helping hand to stand.

While she was having her bath, I brought out her clothes. It was a long blood-red gown. I had read a lot about humans. During their weddings, they usually wear a white gown. I loved the idea of wearing a white gown.

Things are different here; you can wear any color of clothing. Most people don't even have an official wedding, but because we were royalty, we had to have one. My parents were not throwing this lavish wedding just for Elle; they wanted to prove to everyone that one of their daughters had finally found a mate.

I am the first daughter of my parents; my brothers were all married to their mates. My younger sister has found her mate too, and I haven't found mine.

It is said that there's a deep connection between mates, but all the guys that my dad brought to me claimed they felt a connection, but I felt none.

"My princess, we were meant to be. As soon as I walked in here, my heart wanted to jump out of my chest."

This was what all of them had to say. They were all saying this because of my dad's wealth and promises to whoever caught my attention. I wanted real love, the kind I've read about in human stories.

My parents tried as much as possible to let me know they were not disappointed I hadn't found my mate, but I knew deep down they were upset.

Even Aurora, my best friend, has found her mate. I could feel the love she and her mate had for each other, and I wanted something stronger.

People were talking about it. Everywhere I went, I heard whispers among the clan members. They called me a lone wolf. That's what I am. Alone and lonely!

On nights when I would go for a run, I usually went to the entrance of the human world; I could feel a very strong connection there. That's what made me start reading up on humans. I suspected my mate might be human.

I told my parents about it, and they strongly opposed the idea. I wanted to go to the human world and look for my mate. They rejected it instantly, saying it was an abomination.

"But Dad, the Ravenheart Park had a human Luna," I said in my defense.

"Where did that get them? They have disintegrated. Nobody should speak of that clan here, or else they will be punished. You included," my dad said in anger before leaving the room.

My mom tried to comfort me. "Stacy, werewolves are not meant to coexist with humans; they are dangerous to us, and we are dangerous to them."

"But Mom, the Luna didn't do anything. I don't know much about what caused the fight between our clan and theirs, but she never got into trouble with anyone here," I said, tears sliding down my cheeks.

I was brought back to the present when I heard my sister's voice.

"Why are you crying, Stacy?" she asked, concerned.

I didn't want to ruin my sister's big day by telling her that I wanted to go to the human world in search of my mate.

"Elle, I'm going to miss you, that's all," I said, smiling. "Come here. Give me a hug," I said, stretching out both hands.

She jumped into my arms, and I hugged her tightly. "Oh, my little Elle is getting married today. I'm so happy for you!" I squealed.

"Oh my paws! What a lovely sister hug," a tiny voice chimed in. It was Aurora.

"Finally, you're here, A," I said, standing up to give her a chance to hug Elle.

"Dick didn't want me to leave; you know I have to warm his bed as the weather is very cold," she said while hugging my sister. We all laughed.

"Come on, A, don't say that here. Elle is a kid," I said, trying to hold back my smile.

"Sis, I'm no longer a kid. How do you think I got this mark on my neck?" Elle said and winked at Aurora.

"Oh my paws! I gasped and flung my hand to my mouth. "Elle, you didn't!" I exclaimed in shock.

"Yes, I did, sis," she replied.

I pretended to chase her around the room with an imaginary stick in hand while she laughed aloud with Aurora.
