Chapter 37 : Imprisoned

Erik’s POV

As expected, King Varric didn’t believe me.

Instead, they stole my wife from me. Tossed me into a prison cell. I could hear my mother berating my father in the distance. My brothers arguing. Even with my dark vision, I couldn’t see them.

I could only wonder where Magnus was. King Varric was out for blood, and Magnus would likely be the first one to meet the axe. Less collateral to execute a riddari than a prince. At least at first.

But according to the gossiping dungeon warden, Magnus disappeared shortly after my family was imprisoned. That in and of itself eased some of my stress.

I didn’t know if Poppy had woken up. Or if she was alive. My heart ached, squeezing with this awful sense of dread. To the Gods, I’d just started to look forward to our intimacy. I’d only just started the ritual of braiding her hair before bed.

I missed the feeling of her hair between my fingers.
