Chapter 35 : Crimson

Poppy’s POV

“Do you want another glass of wine, Princess?” Eirikur asked, twisting a loose strand of my hair around his finger as he eyed my empty glass. We were already up too late, our legs tangled up in the furs on the bed. He was sitting up, leaning on the headboard while I was resting against his bare chest.

“I think I’m good,” I said, handing him my glass so he could put it on the bedside table. I pressed my cheek against his warm chest, listening to the relaxed pounding of his heart. After two glasses of wine, I felt all floaty and happy. One more and I’d fall asleep.

He combed his long fingers through my hair and I slumped into a happy puddle. I could get used to the affection. And Eirikur seemed to like how I practically purred during every thoughtful, lazy stroke of his fingers.

He kneaded my bare shoulders, our naked bodies rested against each other, sated and sleepy. Our honeymoon was almost over and part of me was scared to get back to Aldermor.
