Chapter 46 : Rest

Erik’s POV

“It is done, Eirikur,” Hel said softly from her throne. “It’s time for you to go home.”

“How do I know you kept your promise?” I asked, head lolling from the force it took to stay awake.

She hummed and rose to her feet. “You’ll have to trust me. I have no reason to lie.”

I didn’t trust her. Not when she sent an army of draugr to kill me and successfully killed a man who I was beginning to think of as a friend. But what other choice did I have?

“It was a pleasure, Hel,” I replied, worn down and exhausted, still coated in draugr blood. I slid my broadsword into the sheath I had on my back and dipped at the waist. I didn’t have much left in me, but I had enough for one more thing.

She gave me a half-smile from the living part of her face. “Hold on tight.”
