Chapter 22: A Purse for a House

I wiped my eyes as I got off the ferry later that night. Leaving Jack’s apartment was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.
Not only did I feel safe while I was staying with Jack, I felt more like myself than I ever had in the last several months.
It was dark by the time I got off the ferry. I was a few miles away from the mansion, but I was in no rush to get there, so I started walking down the dark road, my thoughts filled to the brim with the face of a certain detective.
I felt my face grow hot as memories from the night before started to play through my head. I grit my teeth together as I thought about Jack’s unbelievably dark eyes and coy smile.
After our magical night, I woke up feeling completely blissed out. A pleasant future with him started to look possible, complete with a white picket fence and carvings around our kitchen door frame.
