Chapter 41: We Need to Talk
*Jack*
When I opened my eyes, obnoxiously bright lights filled my vision. I was in too much pain to think for even a second that I might be dead.
I was laying on something soft. I flexed my muscles as my eyes adjusted and I squinted up at the tiled ceiling as the scent of something antiseptic filled my nose. The smell was mixed with some powerful cleaners. A rhythmic beeping noise sounded from a machine next to my head.
My brain felt cloudy and light as I tried to figure out why I was lying in a hospital bed.
It didn't take me very long to remember.
Mia.
I sat up quickly, groaning when the white room spun at my sudden movements and my head began to pound. I lifted my arm in an attempt to soothe the pain and was annoyed to find an IV inserted into my arm. With a growl, I yanked it out, tossing it carelessly aside, ignoring the alarmed beeps that immediately escalated once I was disconnected.
