Thirteen Modesty

After arriving in Japan, I became a high school student named Kamiyagawa. Looking around—
Hanako crouched in the bathroom, waiting for someone to knock on the door; the Split-Mouth Woman wandered the streets with scissors in hand; Miss Mary's deathly calls echoed incessantly; the wails and barks in Inunaki Village never ceased; the Ubume searched for her long-dead child; the Aoandon smiled, enticing passersby to play with the lanterns of a hundred demons…
In a crumbling world rampant with sinister tales and malevolent spirits, Kamiyagawa set a small goal for himself:
"Defeat all the demons and monsters, and become the supreme ruler of ghosts and deities."

Being pressed down by a ghost is a type of haunting phenomenon.


It's generally the lowest level of spiritual encounter, a manifestation of a Wandering Soul's mischief, which doesn't cause any substantial harm to ordinary people.


Kamiyagawa had experienced several of these low-level haunting incidents recently.


Apart from feeling as if a whole bunch of spectral "brothers" were watching him sleep, these last few days, Kamiyagawa occasionally saw fleeting, incomplete ghostly figures and heard odd, illusionary whispers.


The night before last, when he was returning home from his part-time job at the convenience store, he even ran into a ghost hitting the wall.


Such a high frequency of hauntings was definitely related to the supercharged curse that Hanako had cast on him.
