An employee of the boutique, Ladies' haven, arrived at the Ming-ming apothecary, informing Lucifer that they were done with the order.
"Ladies' haven is a boutique that specialize in making dresses, no?"
Paimon asked as he narrowed his eyes, looking with conflicted eyes at the letter.
"Maybe your senior brother is courting someone or is in a relationship with someone..." Baal expressed his idea doubtfully as he imagined a woman holding Lucifer's hands.
Just then, the two imagined a scene.
A scene where Lucifer was pouting as he held the woman's hands, placing them on his cheeks, as he sulk for attention. The aloof and stoic man sulking for the attention of another.
"....."
After some silence, the two came back to their senses. Paimon then brought the white envelope that had the mark of Ladies' haven upstairs, placing the letter on top of a small table right outside Lucifer's room where letters are to be placed.
...
Inside a two story house, a young woman who is in her twenties was busily cleaning every single nook and cranny of her newly bought house, making sure that it would be spotless.
Wearing a simple dress with a handkerchief around her head, the young woman sat down in exhaustion.
She said, complaining to herself as she reached for the teacup, "I should definitely hire a maid"
With a sip of chamomile tea she felt relaxed, her body's muscles easing up.
After a few more minutes, she went to the bathroom and took a quick bath, she prepared some snacks such as oat cookies with chocolate chips, mint candy, and iced ginger lemon tea.
"Haha! I should give myself an award for making such a beautiful presentation. Too bad I don't have a camera to take a picture"
Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting!
The bell rang quite loudly, indicating a guest had arrived.
"Now then, I wonder if I would get flying colors with all the preparations I made"
The young woman took her time, slowly walking to the front door and opened it.
"Good day, lady Lalaine"
The tall young man at the doorstep bowed slightly.
His dark brown hair was combed back neatly, his white shirt was prim, and his complexion showed how healthy he was.
"I apologize for showing up a day after I sent my letter. I had to come here as soon as possible, otherwise my uncle would get mad at me"
"There is no need to apologize, sir Cain. Please come on in"
Lalaine returned the bow and then made way for Cain to enter the house.
As she closed the door, with a glance, she noticed the carriage adorned with gold outside not attracting any attention from those who were walking by.
To have no one noticed such a carriage that shouts "Money", he must have someone who has the power of illusion with him... Lalaine led the man to the drawing room at the first floor that was prepared and sat down across him.
"Although it is not much, do please help yourself"
Cain's eyes twitched slightly as he saw cookie and candies.
As a gentleman, he took off his glove and took a cookie and ate some of it.
"....."
The oat cookie that was not too sweet with a bit of earthy taste, accompanied by the bitterness of the dark chocolate chips, made Cain who is not fond of sweets smile unknowingly.
"It is delicious" He said after eating the cookie on his hand.
"Thank you. I would like to recommend to drink some of the tea to wash away the earthy aftertaste brought by the cookie"
With a nod, Cain poured some tea into a teacup and slowly drank the tea.
"It is refreshing and... soothing"
With only a cup, Cain felt some of his fatigue vanish.
"Sir Cain, do you know that those with the power of plant and water magic are sensitive to the emotions of others?"
This was a lie.
Cain was taken aback by the sudden question and then answered, "No. I do not"
"I can sense sadness and grief from you. As well as a sense of hatred to oneself as if you see yourself as a hypocrite"
As someone who was an introvert before Veronica came to her life, Elizabeth, who is now Lalaine still had her ability to accurately sense the emotions of others.
The sense that allowed her to react according to the situation, go away from people with dubious intentions, and guess the thoughts of others came back with her memories from her past life.
"....."
Cain looked down, speechless as he could not bring himself to look at the woman across him.
"I assume that you came here because you were forced to have an arranged marriage with me, with the recommendation of my grand aunt which the Count of Lerdin approved of"
"The Count then told you to meet with me so that you will have an idea of what sort of person I am before I formally come to your family's manor when I visit Ma'am Sasha"
"....."
"While I do not know of your situation, I hope you do not do something you will regret nor will you let something to happen and then regret it when it is already too late"
She took her teacup and drank her tea elegantly with her eyes half close.
"Base on the things you have said and your current state, why don't we end this today. I will gladly welcome you here at my house at another time once your mental state becomes stable"
"You are more frank than I thought" Cain said in a low voice as he laughed dryly while forcing a smile.
"I believe proper communication is the fastest way to prevent any misunderstanding"
"Besides, we are both adults. Let's be efficient with the way we do things and have another meeting at some other time when both of us are alright with it. Both physically and mentally"
"Thank you for your words"
Cain stood up.
"You can take the jar of candy with you. They are mint candies that I made. I assure you that they are not too sweet"
"I will take your offer then"
After leading Cain to the front door, the man bowed slightly before going back to his carriage.
...
At the grand manor of the Lerdins, inside a drawing room that was illuminated by the bright sun,
"You returned so fast... was there a problem?"
"How was she?"
Sasha Reosra and Count Jeremy Lerdin were sitting across Cain with expectant eyes.
"She is very considerate and kind. I have offended her and yet she said nothing about it"
"....."
The two who were holding back their excitement were questioning what they just heard.
The young man in front of them was none other than the fifth child of N'hara who is known for his achievements and clean history, both in social circles and academic records.
They couldn't imagine how such a man could make such a mistake that he would say he offended a lady.
After a few seconds, Sasha Reosra glared at Cain and said with a cold tone, "I see you as my child as you are someone who I have raised along with the count's children. But I will not forgive you if you have done something to my family"
"It is not something like that at all, so please calm down aunt Sasha. You know very well that you cannot afford to stress yourself"
"Then, what do you mean by you offending her?" The Count asked as he tilted his head in puzzlement.
"I won't be answering that, uncle. It is a secret between us"
Cain replied as he took a candy from a jar.
Seeing him willingly took a candy, Jeremy asked, "As far as I know, you don't like sweets. What's with the sudden change? And what sort of shop would sell something that would pique your interest"
"It is not sweet since these are mint candies. Also, this is something I received from lady Lalaine"
"....."
The two looked at Cain who was happily munching on the mint candy and then looked at each other with mischievous smiles on their faces.
