Unsettling Discovery

General Nolan was lying on the bed in the medical room. There were three iron windows here, all on one wall. The night had no stars or moonlight, and the lights on the ceiling were off, but everyone could still see around. The walls remained uncleared, but the floor was unexpectedly clean.

There were ten beds, five of which were lined against the wall. Next to each bed was a two-tiered small table, one layer with various medications and the other with scissors, bandages, and paper. Though the internal ground vibrations caused by the robots' movement couldn't be eliminated, they didn't hinder the patients' sleep.

General Nolan was one of the patients here, his leg suspended, wrapped in bandages, and covered in plaster, but he didn't want to rest right now.

Now they had lost, and he didn't know if it would affect their morale.

They should understand why this army should fight, why they should die, or why they themselves fight, and why they would die. So they absolutely couldn't lose their spirits. Losing their spirit was worse than death. Every day, it would just be like being a walking dead, picking up a gun and killing some robots at random, and going crazy might even lead to killing their own people.

As a general, he couldn't let them lose their spirit. That was the responsibility of a general!

But how should he do it?

"Ah." He still sighed.

dongdongdong.

Someone knocking? He was a bit puzzled. Who would be up at this hour?

"Come in," he replied, and the door opened in response.

It was Ming Fa and Christine.

"Did you want to see me?" he asked, and Ming Fa nodded twice in response. "What's the matter?"

"You should remember, when you were about to die at the door, did it close?" Ming Fa walked up to him and asked straight away.

"...What's going on?" He suddenly had a sense of foreboding. Could it be...

"The button of the door had been pressed, not by the automatic emergency system, but manually." Ming Fa paused, "There's a traitor among us."

This information undoubtedly shocked the three present, especially General Nolan. He had unreasonably believed that his army was united, that no one would betray each other. But the current situation undoubtedly plunged him into an abyss, making it hard to climb out.

"I'm sorry, General, but this is the most likely situation, the only way to explain the sudden closing of the door." Ming Fa bowed apologetically, but the general responded with a silent bow.

"General, are you okay?" Christine asked worriedly.

"I need to rest," General Nolan finally raised his head, saying expressionlessly, "You all go back to sleep. We have to regroup tomorrow."

"But, General..." Christine was still very concerned.

"I'll investigate the traitor. You just need to stay quiet and give me some time to think," the general's tone was like giving an order.

Ming Fa and Christine looked at each other, bowed together, and said, "Sorry for the disturbance," then left the medical room.

The general listened to the silence around him, feeling disturbed.

And then he cried, quietly.
