Chapter 11

Luke knew he wouldn't be able to calculate how to get to their world with just a pen and paper, he needed more than that. He needs technology higher than that of the world he's in.

He lay down on the floor and looked at the sky blankly. 'The sun is hurting my eyes,' he thought.

He heard footsteps and saw the Quincy man standing before him.

"I am sorry for putting a spell on you," he said forcefully through his teeth. He looked like he was going to die from humiliation as well.

"Why should I forgive a half-assed apology?" Luke asked as he continued to look at the sky. "Besides apologizing can not reverse what you did to me," he said.

Quincy was infuriated, a bright orange aura showed around him, it was sharp and looked quite dangerous as well.

Luke saw it. He was curious as to what it was. "Timothy!" he shouted standing up completely ignoring Quincey who probably wanted to kill him.

"I told you to call me Tim!" Tim shouted back then walked towards him.

"Princess! I still have a lot of questions, do you still want to play the game we were playing?" Like suggested.

River's brightened. "No, no, I still don't trust you," Quincy said.

Luke doesn't bother with him. "That seems like a you problem," he said nonchalantly. "I don't trust you either," he said. "Also I don't remember asking for your opinion."

Quincey was dumbfounded. He would have something, but he saw the looks of disapproval on the other's face and he stopped himself.

"Sit down," Luke said sitting on the ground.

"Why did you call me to?" Tim asked in confusion.

"Shut up and sit down," Luke said.

Tim sneered but complied. River too sat down, but she looked awkward.

Luke placed the force field device down and activated it.

River looked panicked. "Huh?" she exclaimed in fear, patting the force field.

"Don't worry I won't try to kill you," Luke said calmly. "Sorry but I don't trust your friends outside, I hope you understand," he said.

River nodded. "So now it's my turn to ask some questions," Luke said. "Would you be able to answer them honestly?" he asked.

"Yes," River replies eagerly.

"Good," Luke says.

Tim realizes what he's here for. He's merely a spectator in this.

"How does this world run?" Luke asked.

If they want to get out of here, he would need answers, and urgently as well.

"I don't know how to explain it," she said timidly.

"It's fine, explain it however you like," Luke said patiently. This surprised Tim a bit. He never knew Like could be patient. No, scratch that, he never knew him in the first place.

"Well," River said rubbing her upper arm nervously. "Our world was once run by gods thousands of years ago, but most of them left when mortals began getting familiar with them and they didn't like it, however, they manifest every once in a while, there are several races here, angels, demons, vampires, elves, beast people, fairies, and finally humans," she said. "I'm a half angel."

"Wow we don't have that in our world," Tim said in amazement.

"I don't think so," Luke said in a thought. "I suppose in this world humans are more peaceful and not run by greed and fear of what they don't understand, or they understand what is going on."

"What are you saying?" Tim said in confusion.

"Do you remember the myths from the biblical books and the delusions from people of history?" Luke said it was obvious River already understood by how pale she was.

"Yeah," Tim replies, then realizes what he is talking about.

"Humans killed off the vampires, and beast people, angels live in heaven, and the ones on earth are practically invisible to our eyes, demons live among us and feed on our negative energy."

Luke notices that Tim is looking at him weirdly. "What is it?" he asked impatiently.

"You're a geek?" Tim said in excitement.

"No, David is, that's why he's obsessed with creating a time machine," Luke replies watching as Tim's excitement deflated. "He wanted to know how the human race could think up such delusions. After all, we don't create unless we see something and it's of use to us."

"I believe they were created to teach people a lesson on good behavior," Tim says innocently.

"The Witch Hunt of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century, the times the people began putting up garlic on their doorways and wearing the cross around their necks to ward off vampires. Do you want me to continue?"

"No, I think our friend might be sick," Tim said indicating to River.

"Is your world always this gruesome?" she asks.

"We live in a world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, nobody is ever satisfied with what they have," Luke says.

"Kind of ironic coming from a rich guy," Tim says.

Luke ignores him and then asks his next question. "How did David get here?"

"I don't know, a bright light appeared in my father's court and David appeared injured and unconscious," River said.

"That must have been from the machine having a malfunction and exploding," Luke said thinking.

"Why do you wish to die?" River asked.

Luke and Tim blinked at her twice. Tim grabbed Luke's shoulder and began shaking him."Did you say something to her?" he demanded.

"No," Luke said dully. "Stop shaking me, my brain is swishing around."

"He didn't tell me anything," River said. "I have a talent for reading people's auras, your is yellow and with shades of pink and purple, it means you are a good person, but you are sometimes driven by lust and wealth," she said. "Sometimes there's also blue which could indicate a bit of sadness."

Tim covered his face in shame. "A little girl is saying I'm a womanizer," he said.

"Aren't you?" Luke says. "And let me guess mine is grey?" he asked, not waiting for her to say the color of his aura.

"How--"

"I guessed. Why do I want to die?" he asked. "I don't know," he says. "I've forgotten why."

"But grey also means indifference, stability, and intelligence," she says.

"Well, if it does help Luke is said to be the century's genius," Tim says. "And he's indifferent to whatever situation he's in with does dull eyes of his," he said poking at him.

"Why are introducing me to her like a character from a show?" Luke said in a bit of annoyance.

"Because I can," Tim replies grinning at him.

"Do you know how David got his power?" Luke asked.

"No," River said shaking her head. "The day he got his power was the day he overthrew my father, it was also the day the war against the Demon race began."

"I think I know the reason for that," Luke mutters.

"What do mean by that?" River asks.

"Is that your next question?"

She nodded and Luke responded. "I spoke to the Demon King twice, I suppose he's a god from the look on your face."

River's mouth was covered in surprise as she nodded.

"David seemed to have double-crossed his sister Nyx and trapped her on the moon, I'm guessing he stole her power and the demon king wants to get back at him, but he can't for some reason."

"Gods can't interfere with whatever is going on with mortals, so he chose you to do his bidding, you have the butterfly tattoo on the side of your neck after all."
