Chapter 49: "I Made You Worry"

Her words were soft and melodious, the kind of voice that could make a man's heart flutter without realizing it.

Yet Chen Yin nearly shivered, inwardly groaning, This is bad.

—That sharp and domineering tone—this didn't feel like an investigation to uncover the truth.

No, this felt more like a test for a prospective son-in-law.

Clearing his throat, Chen Yin straightened and responded with a respectful bow, "Master Mu, please investigate this matter clearly. At that time, Senior Sister Shen and I fell off a cliff and narrowly survived. We were both gravely injured and have only recently recovered after consuming significant amounts of medicinal pills."

"We are but cultivators in the Cloud and Unrestricted Realms, and both heavily wounded. How could we have possibly killed so many patrol disciples?"

Mu Susu's enchanting gaze flitted over Chen Yin, her expression unreadable.

Chen Yin continued, "In truth, the patrol disciples were killed by another cultivator—a masked man of extraordinary strength. His aura was so powerful that I have only sensed such intensity from my master…"

"...And from you, Master Mu." He slipped in a subtle compliment at the end.

"Oh?" Mu Susu's perfectly shaped eyebrows arched slightly. "Are you saying… that this cultivator had power comparable to the Great Purity Realm?"

"If that's the case, how did you and Shen Shuanglian, two juniors, survive?"

"By sheer luck and the intervention of my master, who arrived just in time to save us," Chen Yin replied calmly.

At this, Mu Susu's expression darkened briefly, causing Chen Yin's heart to skip a beat. He wasn't sure which part of his statement had displeased her.

"Ha, daring to spout such brazen lies in front of me, Mu Susu?" she said coldly.

"Every word I've spoken is the absolute truth."

"If it's true, and it was your master who saved you," Mu Susu's gaze sharpened, her tone turning icy, "then where is she? Why isn't she here with you?"

Chen Yin's expression remained neutral, but inwardly, he became more cautious.

—His master's injuries were a sensitive matter, and it was unclear how many people knew of them.

To be prudent, every Great Purity Realm cultivator had to be treated as a potential threat to his master.

Thus, he tactfully replied, "My master has always been a free spirit. After saving us, she chose to leave on her own."

Mu Susu's sneer deepened. "Do you really think I'm so easily fooled?"

"If your master has returned to her mountain, then there's no one to corroborate your innocence."

"Shen Shuanglian of the Misty Spirit Sect can vouch for me," Chen Yin responded, his tone steady and unyielding. "If Master Mu doubts my character, then surely the reputation of the Frost Moon Sword Immortal is credible enough?"

"Hmph, and why should I believe the words of a junior from the Misty Spirit Sect?"

Mu Susu's tone was filled with arrogance and disdain. A faint, oppressive aura radiated from her, and Chen Yin felt the pressure on his shoulders grow heavier and heavier.

"If you fail to provide satisfactory evidence," she said, her voice chillingly firm, "don't blame me for taking you back to the Tianluo Sect for a more thorough interrogation."

Chen Yin sighed, as though resigning himself to his fate, and asked, "Then what evidence would Master Mu require?"

"You claim that your master, the Immortal Yu Ling, saved you," Mu Susu said, raising her slender hand slightly. A wave of energy locked onto Chen Yin, seemingly prepared to seal his spiritual sea. "Fine. I'll take you to Yushan Mountain myself, so you can face your master directly."

"If everything you've said is true, then nothing will come of it. But if you dare lie to me—" her tone darkened ominously, "I'll settle the matter with your master personally."

Hearing this, Chen Yin's expression began to shift, growing more somber.

"Master Mu," he said, his voice suddenly turning colder.

"I respect you as a senior in the cultivation world, which is why I've been willing to explain everything to you."

"But in your eyes, Master Mu, does Yushan Mountain seem like a marketplace where anyone can come and go, raise accusations as they please?" His voice was calm and resonant, yet it carried an unshakable firmness.

The next moment, the surrounding Tianluo Sect disciples unsheathed their swords in unison, their murderous intent pointed squarely at him.

"How dare you! Such insolence toward the Deputy Leader!"

Chen Yin acted as if he hadn't noticed, his gaze remaining clear and steadfast as he looked straight at Mu Susu.

Her gaze turned colder, and the immense pressure radiating from her became almost suffocating. A lesser cultivator would have already been trembling on their knees under her stare.

"Say that again," she commanded icily.

Chen Yin's tone remained tranquil. "I said, Yushan Mountain is not a marketplace."

"If Master Mu truly wishes to force her way in, then I hope you're prepared to never leave."

The Tianluo disciples looked ready to strike, tension crackling in the air like firecrackers about to explode.

"Stop."

Mu Susu raised her hand, halting her disciples. Her expression suddenly shifted to one of intrigue, and she asked with a mysterious smile, "Are you truly unwilling to bring me to your master to prove your innocence?"

"I am," Chen Yin answered resolutely.

In an instant, a terrifying killing intent engulfed him. Mu Susu extended a slender finger, and it felt as though an invisible hand clutched at his throat.

"Refusing to see your master out of guilt—are you finally ready to admit your crimes?"

"If the mighty Deputy Leader of the Tianluo Sect insists on believing that a severely injured Cloud Realm cultivator could kill disciples from three sects," Chen Yin said, his tone calm as he shrugged, "then I have nothing more to say."

Mu Susu's killing intent intensified, and the atmosphere was so charged that it felt like a single spark could ignite a devastating conflict.

The pressure on Chen Yin's shoulders was like a mountain trying to crush him, but he stood as straight as a spear, unyielding.

The tension stretched unbearably until, suddenly, the oppressive weight lifted, and the suffocating killing intent vanished like mist under the sun.

A crisp, melodious laugh broke the silence, light and refreshing as a bamboo flute.

"Well, well. That old Yu Ling has quite the disciple."

Mu Susu's face now bore an admiring smile, as though the cold, murderous woman from moments ago had been someone else entirely.

"Refusing to reveal your master's whereabouts, even at the risk of your life? Loyalty and integrity indeed."

"But it seems…" Her tone turned casual, almost teasing. "Your master really must be gravely injured this time."

Chen Yin's gaze sharpened.

"What do you mean by that, Master Mu?"

"Don't be so sensitive," she replied with a chuckle. "This is not something someone at your level needs to concern themselves with."

"Rest assured about your master."

"That unreliable old woman has a life force as tenacious as a cockroach's. She's not so easy to kill."

Chen Yin's curiosity was piqued.

Judging by her tone, it seemed Mu Susu had a close relationship with his master and even knew some of the details about her injuries.

But she didn't seem inclined to share those details with him.

Mu Susu beckoned him closer with a curled finger, and Chen Yin obediently stepped forward.

"Hmm… quite a handsome face."

She examined him as if appraising a rare treasure, her gaze sweeping over him thoroughly before she nodded in satisfaction.

"Alright, you pass."

"I know there's more to this matter than meets the eye, so I won't trouble you further, little one."

She smirked. "Otherwise, a certain little girl would throw a tantrum."

At that moment, a petulant voice came from the sedan chair behind her.

"Mother!"

"Haha, fine, fine. I'll stop," Mu Susu said, her smile full of amusement. "Go find your little lover, and don't let my daughter get too upset."

Before Chen Yin could process her words, a fiery red figure darted out of the sedan chair, grabbed his hand, and pulled him away as though fleeing the scene.

Dragged along for a long distance, Chen Yin finally stopped when they were out of sight of the Tianluo Sect disciples, both of them slightly out of breath.

"Uh, Sister Qiaoqiao, what are you—"

Before he could finish, something soft and warm pressed against his lips.

The kiss was as intense as a blooming field of flowers, full of passion and affection that seemed to seep straight into his heart.

It was a long while before Luo Qiaoqiao reluctantly pulled away, her flushed cheeks glowing with a mix of joy and frustration.

"Bad little brother, do you have any idea how worried I was about you?"

Chen Yin scratched his head awkwardly, then leaned in to place a soft kiss on her cheek.

"…Sorry."

"I made you worry."

Tn: God damn, Qiaoqiao, your mother is quite daring, had she actually tried to force her way into the mountain, Chen Yin would have killed her.
