Chapter 50: The Only One I Love

Amidst the bamboo forest, the wind rustled through the leaves, creating a soothing melody.

"…Don't mind her, okay? My mother didn't mean to come across that way." On a small forest path, Luo Qiaoqiao walked with her hands clasped behind her back, nervously trailing beside Chen Yin. She spoke cautiously, "As the Deputy Leader of Tianluo, she has to take a firm stance on many things."

Chen Yin nodded. "I understand. I didn't take it personally."

Only then did Luo Qiaoqiao gently take his hand. "I'm glad you're not upset."

"You have no idea how worried I was when you fell! My biggest regret was not jumping down after you."

"If you'd actually dared to jump, I would've been the first to spank your little butt." Chen Yin gave a mock-threatening glare.

Luo Qiaoqiao stuck out her tongue and muttered under her breath, "So why was it okay for 'Blue Robes' to jump after you, huh?"

What kind of weird jealousy is this?

Switching topics abruptly, she pressed him further. "Be honest. What exactly did you two do down there?"

"What did we do… What could we have done?" Chen Yin averted his gaze, a bit guilty. "Two seriously injured people—just staying alive was a miracle."

"Nothing at all?"

"Nothing except healing our wounds."

"Really?"

"Really."

Only then did Luo Qiaoqiao turn away, half-satisfied, letting out a light huff. "Alright, then. That's fine."

"I wouldn't want 'Blue Robes' to beat me to it."

"Why do you call her 'Blue Robes' anyway?" Chen Yin couldn't help but ask.

"Because everything about her is blue!" Luo Qiaoqiao blinked innocently. "And she's so cold and uptight all the time, like a smelly sock frozen stiff."

Chen Yin suddenly felt awkward.

—Oh no.

Now that she mentioned it, it really did sort of fit.

Of course, that only applied to usual circumstances. During their nights in the cave, Shen Shuanglian's expressions had been anything but cold.

But naturally, Chen Yin wouldn't dare say that out loud.

The brook babbled softly as it meandered through the bamboo forest. Luo Qiaoqiao hopped onto a stone by the stream, her bright red dress standing out vividly against the greenery.

Chen Yin sat down beside her, leaning close in an unspoken invitation.

"…Can you tell me?" Luo Qiaoqiao rested her head on his shoulder and whispered.

"Tell you what?"

"Why you stood up for that woman, Yin Mengwan?"

She hesitated for a moment before asking, "Do you… know her?"

Chen Yin was silent for a moment before nodding slowly. "I suppose… you could say I do."

Luo Qiaoqiao's lips twitched into a small pout, her displeasure evident.

"Why are you always attracting all these women?"

"If I didn't have that ability, I wouldn't have met you." Chen Yin shrugged.

"What a scumbag thing to say."

"I can say something even worse, if you'd like."

The bamboo grove swayed gently in the breeze, rustling with a soothing cadence.

"Tell me what you've got," Luo Qiaoqiao said, tilting her head with a playful grin.

Chen Yin solemnly cupped her face. "Darling, I only want to enter your body, not your life."

"…Ew, that's so gross." Luo Qiaoqiao's face twisted in mock disgust.

"Right?"

"But didn't you already pass up a chance to 'enter my body' for free? What a waste," she teased with a sly smirk.

Chen Yin coughed awkwardly. "Uh, maybe that just means I'm not completely shameless."

"Tch." Luo Qiaoqiao rolled her eyes, her expression briefly clouded by a faint trace of melancholy. "You've got the desire, but not the guts—and you still say it so boldly."

Chen Yin thickened his skin and pretended not to hear.

"Still, even though you say you know her, saving her wasn't just some childish 'hero saving the beauty' move, right?"

He paused, speaking more seriously. "I need her help with something."

"What is it?"

"Have you heard of her sect, Changli Palace?"

Luo Qiaoqiao blinked in confusion. "Not really… Is something wrong with it?"

Chen Yin hesitated before explaining, "My junior sister—before she joined us at Yushan Mountain—might have had some connection to that sect."

"But Changli Palace was wiped out over ten years ago. Any information about it has been mysteriously sealed away."

"With no other options, I can only pin my hopes on this enigmatic Miss Yin." He shrugged lightly.

Luo Qiaoqiao stared at her toes for a while before lifting her gaze. "Why don't I ask my parents for you?"

"They've been around the cultivation world for so many years. If Changli Palace's story is significant, they might know something."

Chen Yin nodded. "If they're willing, that would be wonderful."

"Of course, if it's a sensitive matter, don't push it."

"I'll find the answers myself," he said with quiet determination.

Luo Qiaoqiao bit her lip softly, hesitating before asking, "Is this… really important to you?"

"Very important."

Chen Yin turned slightly to meet her gaze. "At Yushan Mountain, I only have two family members left. No matter what, I need to figure out my junior sister's situation."

"To me, she's like how the Deputy Leader is to you—an irreplaceable family member."

Luo Qiaoqiao looked wistful for a moment, then nodded lightly.

"Alright then."

"But since I'm helping you, don't I deserve a reward?"

Chen Yin sighed, exasperated. "What kind of reward do you want? I'm broke, you know."

"No problem. You can repay your debt with your body," Luo Qiaoqiao teased, her voice lilting with mischief as she lifted his chin with a slender finger. Her gaze was irresistibly alluring.

"Then why don't you just hire a gigolo?"

"Ordinary pretty boys won't satisfy me. Only someone like you will do. You're just my type."

Chen Yin gave up, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. Please, Sister, stop teasing me. Otherwise, you might as well hand me over to the Deputy Leader to be executed."

"Coward." Luo Qiaoqiao pouted. "If you were brave enough, give her a grandchild and see if she'd dare touch you then."

"…Wow. You really believe in going big or going home, huh?"

After a shared laugh, Luo Qiaoqiao's smile faded slightly. In a quieter voice, she said,

"I'm not that greedy. I don't need any extravagant reward."

"Just promise me, next time, don't risk your life like that again, okay?"

"The feeling of watching you fall—it's not something I want to experience ever again." Her voice carried a faint trace of sorrow.

Chen Yin was silent for a moment before nodding solemnly.

"Do you know why my mother came here?"

She looked at him intently. "Because I called her."

"If I couldn't find you, I would've had her bring people to the Misty Spirit Sect and kill Mo Jie personally—or force him to come down and fight."

Chen Yin laughed wryly. "Was that really necessary? For a small-time cultivator like me—"

"I know it seems reckless and unreasonable to outsiders. To start a war between two sects over one little cultivator—it sounds absurd."

"But some things aren't measured like that."

Luo Qiaoqiao shook her head, her gaze unwavering as she looked at Chen Yin.

"I'm my parents' only daughter. To them, I'll always be more important than Tianluo Sect."

"And for me, you're the only person I love."

"In my eyes, you'll always be more important than me."
