Chapter 19: Evelyn Blackwood

*Alistair*

‘What the f*ck did my mother just call Daphne?’

Alistair was on the verge of seeing red the moment he and his wife stepped into the study and saw just how furious Evelyn looked. But when he heard her bitter utterance slip past her lips, Blackwood felt a whole surge of a rage spike under his skin.

‘...Miss Sullivan...’

It was as if someone had stabbed him with an ice pick and proceeded to rub salt in the wound.

Part of him wanted to turn Daphne in his arms and full blown take her lips in the most improper, animalistic way for the whole room to see. He wanted to prove outright that Daphne was his wife in every meaning of the word and he didn’t give a damn what anyone had to say.

But, Blackwood knew that such behavior would have a negative repercussion on Daphne much less himself. Even if he was the one to initiate such a smoldering display, Evelyn would surely pin the blame on someone else.
