Chapter 20: A Proposition

*Daphne*

The short weeks that followed their return to the manor were filled with heavy work preparations and terrible awkwardness amongst the family members. Both Lila and Victoria decided to stay around the house until the holidays were over. Evelyn kept her distance from Daphne and proceeded to give her the silent treatment if the two were to run into each other.

Daphne tried her best to not let the older woman’s behavior stifle her mood. She still adored Blackwood Manor, and even more now that the autumn was in full swing.

All of the trees that lined the gardens had turned their leaves, creating a breathtaking foliage of red, orange, and yellow. The staff members went on to light roaring fires in each of the rooms that held a fireplace. The place smelled of pumpkin and spices, reminding her of her childhood growing up.
