*Daphne*
Daphne felt her entire body go rigid from the name that popped up on her phone screen.
Rowan.
At first, she wasn’t sure if her eyes were playing a trick on her. Her lungs seized up in her chest and several thousands of chills raced down her back. Her heart dropped into her stomach.
Why? Why was he, of all people, trying to call her? What could he possibly have to say to her after everything he’d put her through, emotionally?
Daphne picked up her phone and continued to watch it ring. A disturbing sensation of trial and debate came crashing over her. As much as she wanted to ignore his phone call, she couldn’t keep her undying curiosity from rushing the surface.
On the other hand, although she never considered herself as someone who was petty, Daphne wanted to let the ringer go dead. She wanted to make herself unreachable—the same way he made himself unreachable.
