Chapter 44: Daphne's Birthday

*Daphne*

It was almost a week since Rowan made his mysterious appearance at the manor. Daphne was still slightly on edge about the whole encounter and tried her best to look past it. She knew stressing about it wasn’t good for the baby.

As crazy as it seemed, she meant what she said to Alistair about not alienating his son. It was bad enough that she was still living with the guilt about Evelyn living in France—she did not want to add Rowan to that same list in her mind.

Blackwood, on the other hand, appeared to be quite preoccupied with his upcoming project and getting the manor ready for a very special birthday celebration.

Indeed, Daphne’s twenty-sixth birthday was just a day away and everyone was moving at full speed. The staff were given their instructions to get the manor ready and prepare several of her favorite dishes.

“Alistair, is this really all so necessary?” she asked.
