Heartwarming confession (chapter 52)

Jennie tightened her arms around Lucas her eyes full of tears,Lucas was beyond shocked,he wasn't expecting to be engulfed in such a warm hug up on his arrival,he wrapped his hands around her and patted her back comforting,his heart thumping aganist his ribcage "I'm... sorry" he apologised he wanted to say I'm sorry for kissing you without your permission,sorry for leaving without a word, sorry for being selfish he had alot to apologise for but he couldn't say out loud.Hugging Jennie he realised how stupid he had acted and he couldn't help but feel remorseful,they were both adults instead of running like a coward he should have stayed and talked things over with her,Jennie cried for a while before she managed to calm down,she wanted to ask alot of questions but seeing Lucas' state she decided not to,Lucas could feel his clothes wet with tears and his heart broke to a million pieces,Jennie broke the hug hiccuping "no need *sniff* to apologize" Jennie said,Lucas used his hands to wipe away her tears "don't cry.... it's my fault for leaving without a word.... please forgive me" he said his eyes pleading,looking at the state Jennie was, if it was possible he wanted to slap himself hard on his face.

The housekeeper prepared their breakfast as usual,Jennie sat on the dining table waiting for Lucas nervous,when Lucas wanted to talk about what had happened Jennie politely refused him telling him to first take a shower that's because Lucas looked miserable,one could tell he wasn't okay and he had drunk alot,Jennie knew the reason and for some reasons she felt bad,she hated seeing Lucas hurt especially because of her and she was afraid to talk about what had happened,if it was possible she wanted to forget about it and act like nothing had happened but it was impossible.After waiting for a while Lucas walked downstairs,he felt better after taking a cold shower but the headache was still there but it was manageable,Lucas silently sat opposite to her and she poured him juice,Lucas looked at her suprised,he preferred coffee in the morning and Jennie knew that,seeing that look on his face Jennie smiled "you can't drink coffee when you have a hangover" she said and poured herself warm milk,Lucas wanted to refute but choose not to,the fact that she knew he had been drinking proved his hangover was worse,he looked at the juice as if it was a bitter concoction,he hated sweet things especially juice,not wanting to offend her he gulped the entire juice,seeing the beautiful smile on her face he knew it was worth drinking the juice "what's this?" Lucas asked pointing at something that looked like tablets "your medicine.....it seems you drank alot and I'm sure you got a headache" Jennie said handing him the medicine with a glass of water,Lucas felt warmth spread all over his body,even after everything he had done Jennie was still caring as always,how couldn't he not love her,they sat quitely none daring to say a word the funny thing was that each had alot to say but the problem was how to start the conversation.

"Jennie we need to talk" Lucas said taking the initiative,Jennie nodded her head, there was no need to avoid the topic it was better they talked about it and settle everything once and for all.Lucas took a deep breath "Jennie about yesterday I'm sorry" he said "I'm sorry too....for pushing you" "it's understandable....Jennie I want to be honest with my feelings towards you...you have the right to make the decision you want, I promise not to force you or pressure you" he added,he talked calmly but the truth was that he was nervous as hell,it was not his first time confessing his love to someone but even at thirty he was nervous, rejection would hurt him but being honest will set him free."I tricked you to sign the contract marriage...." he said,Jennie opened her eyes in shock,she wanted to speak but no words come from her mouth,for a second she thought she had misheard but the guilty look on Lucas' face made her realise that everything she had heard was true,so the inheritance story was all a lie Jennie thought,she looked at Lucas quitely she didn't know what to say or how to react she didn't understand why Lucas had to trick her,seeing she said nothing Lucas continued,with the look on her face he could guess what she was thinking about "it's true I needed a contract wife to get my inheritance but I choose you intentionally...when I first saw you I was curious about you then you ...started working as my secretary... I don't know when my curiosity turned to love.... I wanted to take advantage of our contract marriage to get close to you....I wanted you to develop feelings for me....I wanted us to be a real couple and not just a contract...and as we stayed together I realised how much I love you but I couldn't master the courage to be honest with you that's .... that's why I kissed you.....Jennifer I love you" Lucas confessed his hands trembling,he decided to be truthful towards Jennie if she rejects him he won't force her and if she agreed he wanted her to know the entire truth,he could use underhanded means to make her sign their marriage contract but if they were to be in a relationship it was better he be honest lest his secrets being exposed in the future jeopardizing their relationship,if she agreed he would be at peace knowing she knows the entire truth.

All this time Jennie was looking at Lucas as if he were a ghost,her heart beating wildly,her heart felt warmth but her mind was already a stone,after countless betrayal she had guarded her heart well to make sure she would never be hurt again,she had swore to never let anyone in,her heart had turned into a stone,she didn't want to feel any type of emotion,but everything started changing slowly after the attempted assassination,when Lucas had taken a bullet for her,she felt at least she was worth something, something she had never felt in her entire life,that someone was willing to protect her in times of danger.Recalling all her suffering tears rolled down her cheeks shocking Lucas "Jennie" he called panicked,Jennie looked at him,those sincere eyes tempted her to let go of her past and accept her future,Lucas was a good man,he had treated her well,even if he had tricked her sign the contract he never for once disrespected her,he never layed his hands on her and despite being pregnant he accepted her without judging her,he had never stepped on her boundaries,he took care of her and her pregnancy and when she had said she didn't want to talk about the father he respected her choice and never bothered her about it,there was no reason to reject him.Lucas was a dream man for all the ladies but Jennie was afraid, that's because if her family and friends could hurt her,betray her and abandon her what more of a stanger?, you're useless...,no man will ever love you.....,never good at anything..., you're nothing without your family....,I wish you were born a boy atleast that would spare us from humiliation....,why do you keep on whining like a baby.....,, you're an empty shell....,you're just beautiful trust me you got nothing else.....,leave my house before I come back, you're an adult you can raise your bastard kid on your own.....Jennie sobbed bitterly holding her chest,those words were like a nightmare that hunted and ruined her happiness,a sharp knife that stabbed deep into her heart leaving it to bleed never to heal,those harsh and cruel words were said by her family,friends and strangers,a curse she could never get rid off,Lucas quickly stood and hugged her from behind comforting her,her painful cry made his heart break to a million pieces,seeing her in so much pain he swore whether they would end up together or not he was going to seek justice for her,a tear rolled down his cheeks "it's okay....no need to cry....you have me now" he said.

"You...said you love me?" Jennie asked her voice hoarse,she had managed to calm down but her tears couldn't stop falling "I do...I love you" Lucas said "why me? I'm an empty shell with nothing but beauty, I'll only humiliate you" Jennie said hiccuping displaying her insecurities,Lucas could guess where all this come from, after he had watched the clips and messages that whenever he remembered them he couldn't help but tighten his fist,he understood her pain,she must have been shattered,hurt and heartbroken,lowering her self esteem to such extend he thought. He tightened his arms around her "sssh...I love you because you're Jennie,if you're an empty shell I don't mind owning one,I don't need reason to love you....and whether you humilate me or not I don't care.... all I care about is us nothing else" he said,Jennie was suprised "but I'm pregnant....I dont know the father of my child....will you stay with someone who got pregnant out of wedlock?.... someone who slept with a stranger and got pregnant..... don't you care what people will say... aren't you scared to be a laughing stock.....Lucas there are multiple women out there willing to accept you love.... I'm not worthy of you.... I'm not worthy of your love.." Jennie said tears in her eyes,Lucas had done so much for her,she didn't want him to be humilated and become a laughing stock in the society,she had personally experienced it and she wouldn't wish the same for Lucas,Lucas who already knew the truth wasn't willing to give up "I love you that's what matters and I'm willing to be the father of your unborn child if you allow me... I love you,how can I not love a child you have given birth to.... biological or not I'll treat the child as my own because the child come from you..... I'll love all of you and give you the happiness you deserve" he said if he needed to be cheeky to assure her and prove his words he didn't mind,Jennie could feel the sincerity in his words making her heart skip a bit."But...." Lucas cut her short "there no excuse or reason that will make me change my mind.... Jennie don't you love me?" he asked,he slowly walked and sat opposite to her,his eyes on hers,Jennie didn't know what to say,she silently looked Lucas in the eye.
