The Outcast

For a good minute, Anna did not say a word. She was still trying to establish the fact that her biological father was coming to watch her game.

Anna stared at the cupcake in her hand and dug it with her spoon before sending it into her mouth.

Across from her, her mother studied her movements as she patiently waited for her to respond.

Finally, after taking her time to finish the flour goodness in her mouth, she lifted her gaze. "I haven't seen him for over twenty years and he hadn't once called me on the phone since you two dissolved your marriage."

"I asked him the same question and he said he wanted to reach out but couldn't because he didn't want to hear my voice after I filed for a divorce and claimed his house," her mother explained.

That excuse did not dwell with Anna, and it's not like she had any hatred left in her heart for her father.
