General Silva's response was similar, though he only replied the next day, likely because of his busy schedule in the second city.

With the agreement of these two, the opinions of others didn't matter.

"You're Amalia's grandfather, so we'll call you Uncle." 

The Vanquez couple warmly welcomed Fernando Yoder, ensuring he felt comfortable staying with them, without Amalia having to mediate.

Fernando Yoder appeared flattered.

 

He had been worried that Amalia's adoptive parents might have issues with him. 

Seeing their genuine smiles, his concerns were put to rest.

"You can call me Uncle Fernando. Thank you for taking care of Amalia all these years; as her grandfather I have been too incompetent," he said.

Mrs. Vanquez smiled warmly, "Let's put the past behind us. As long as we cherish the present, that's the best way to repay the children."

"You're right," Fernando Yoder nodded, feeling emotional.
