Potions

Then we headed down to the dungeon where our Potions class would be held in the dungeon and I couldn't wait for this class. I sat down next to Harry in the front before getting all my things out for class. Then he started with calling role like he didn't really want to do it which I had a feeling was the opposite. Although he paused when he mentioned Harry's name and turned to look at him. "Ah, yes, Harry Potter. Our new - celebrity." I just smiled at Harry knowing Snape was just trying to toughen him up but he just wasn't understanding. He did the same thing with me but I could tell that he softened up when he said it to me. "You are here to learn the subtle science and and exact art of potion-making. As there is little foolish wand-waving here, many of you will hardly believe this is magic. I don't expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses... I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even put a stopper on death - if you aren't as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach." While he was saying all that I was writing it all down so I could remember it all, I noticed Harry was writing down something but I wasn't sure what exactly he was writing. 

"Potter!" Harry and I both jumped since we didn't know who he was referring to but from the looks of it I'd say he was talking to Harry. "What would I try if I added powdered rot of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" I could tell by Harry's look that he had no idea what he was talking about which had me inwardly groaning. "I don't know sir." Professor Snape just sneered at him which had me wondering why but I also knew it wasn't polite to just come out and ask. "Tut, tut - fame clearly isn't everything. Serena can you answer it?" I looked up at him surprised since I figured he would keep asking Harry questions but I took a deep breath looking at him. "They make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Death." It was silent in the room since we were all waiting for his answer but I just stared at him knowing I had the right answer. "Correct, where would you look if I told you to find me a bezoar? Potter?" I sighed knowing he was going to be doing this for this all class and to help him get better at this. "I don't know sir." He then turned to look at me which had me sighing slightly knowing he was trying to show our difference in knowledge. "A Bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save you from most poisons." He seemed pleased when I said that which had me happy since I was impressing my professor which was something not everyone could do. "Correct Serena, what is the difference between monkswood and wolfsbane." 

My head shot up from writing it down to see that he was looking at Harry who yet again answered with he didn't know. Then he turned to look at me which had me inwardly groaning knowing he needed to study some more to get better. "There the same plant, they also go by the name of aconite sir." He turned around while walking to his desk before he turned back around to look at us but I had already written everything down. "Well? Why aren't you all coping that down?" I could hear people behind me immediately pulling out there quills and paper to write it all down. "And a point with be taken from Gryffindors for your check Potter." Then we started working with making Potions which was fun but I didn't like the person I was paired with since she kept talking about how she wanted to be with Draco. However I managed to get the potion done correctly well that is until Neville's exploded, however it seemed like a barrier formed around me, protecting me. However when it went down I felt really dizzy, my vision starting getting hazy before I fainted and I don't know what happened after. When I woke up again I realized I was in the infirmary but wondered how I had gotten there. When Madam Pomfrey came over I asked her what happened but she held out a drink for me to drink down which I did thankfully. It was shortly after that Professor Snape came into the infirmary and over to me seeming glad that I was alright and awake. "You gave us quiet a scare there Ms. Potter when you suddenly collapsed like that." I looked at him confused but then remembered about what happened in the Potions class which had me sighing. 

"All I remember professor is Neville's potion going wrong and that it was coming my way before I started getting dizzy... I don't remember anything else... how did I get here?" I said looking up at him since I was sitting in the hospital bed but all he did was smile at me letting me know that it was all alright. "Draco was actually the one who managed to catch you and he looked like he had just lost a loved one. So make sure you thank him later he's also the one who brought you here today." I nodded looking up at him happy that everything was going to be ok and that I didn't have to worry about anything. I was told to rest in the infirmary for the rest of the day just in case so I settled in and got comfy. 

Then I remembered about my meeting with Hagrid before calling for Madam Pomfrey who came over to me. "Madam Pomfrey I forgot I was supposed to be at Hagrids today at three can you send an owl to him to let him know I can't make it with my utmost apologies??" She smiled at me while nodding telling me that she would be delighted to let him know about what has happened. I thanked her before settling back down into my bed happily glad that he wouldn't think that I'm not just up and forgetting about our meeting. I wound up falling asleep there but when I woke up there were a bunch of presents at the foot of my bed along with a bunch of candy. "You must have a lot of admirers, sweetie." I smiled up at Madam Pomfrey happy that so many people cared about me I noticed some were an apology type from Neville but I didn't mind too much. I opened one of the presents to see that it was this beautiful butterfly necklace that seemed to glow. Which had me curious about what it really did but I knew not to put it on until I know what it does. 

The only person who came to mind for me was Professor Snape so I planned to go to him the minute I got out of here. So once I was cleared for leaving I immediately got up carefully before I headed down to his office. When I got there I knocked on the door and waited for him to allow me to enter into his office which didn't take long so I opened the door and walked into the room. "Professor I'm sorry to disturb you but I had a question." He motioned for me to go on so I asked him about the two necklaces I had received and if there were enchantments on them. He took them and did a few spells on them to check but by his expression he didn't like what he found out. "You were right in bringing these to me Serena, they're both magicked but the second one, the butterfly, you received has merely a powerful protection spell on it. The first one I will dispose of since it has a love spell placed on it, do you know who gave it to you??" I thought back to this morning when I had received my mail which had me remembering who sent it. "Draco sent it to me this morning, I'm not sure about the other one sir." 

He seemed to be deep in thought before he got up and went into his room that was given to him for his classes only to come back out with a book. "Here I want you to read through this book and memorize everything in it, it's a book about magical items. I will also teach you a spell to detect when magics been added to an item." I took the book smiling happily that he was looking out for me even if it might have been because I look like my mother. "I'm not doing this because you look like your mother Serena... I'm doing it because someone targeted a student of Hogwarts and one of our brightest ones yet. Plus we have a lot in common, I want to make sure you get the best learning environment you can so you can protect yourself out there." I blushed brightly before smiling at him nodding understanding what he was talking about. "Thank you Professor, I'm sorry if I made you feel bad about earlier." He just made a gesture for me to leave so I did heading back to the Gryffindor common room. I quickly got my things before taking off to shower which I was happy about, then once I was done with that I headed off to find my brother.

When I came back down to the common room I noticed Ron and him standing at the bulletin board so I walked over to them. "Hey whatcha looking at?" I watched both of them jump before turning around only for Harry to launch at me in a hug. "Serena! Thank heavens your ok! We went to see you a few moments ago but Madam Pomfrey said you'd already left." I just patted his back smiling glad that he was worried about me but I didn't mind since I had worried him a lot. "Sorry Bubby but I had a question for Professor Snape, plus I wanted a shower I don't know what happened after Neville's cauldron blew... so I didn't know if anything got on me." They both nodded when Harry stepped back I guess remembering about how the potion got everywhere. "Ok well you got out just in time for dinner." I nodded happily I was starving since I wasn't able to eat lunch today because of the mishap with the potion. "Ok, just let me go grab something real quick." They nodded while I ran upstairs to my room and grabbed the magical items book I just got as well as putting on Draco's protection necklace. Then I headed back down to the others before we headed out to the great hall for dinner which I was happy about so we talked about what happened after I left. He told me that Hermione said that if I needed any notes to find her which had me laughing knowing she would have a long list of notes.

When we got to the Great Hall I noticed that even though Draco had gotten another care package he kept looking at the doors. He seemed relieved when he saw me walk in before he hid it away quickly but then I remembered that I had promised to thank him for his help. "I'll meet you guys at the table I promised both Madam Pomfrey and Professor Snape that I would thank Malfoy for taking me to the hospital wing." I could tell that Harry didn't like it but knew I wouldn't stand down about this as did Ron. So I made my way over to Draco already seeing Snape watching me which had me smiling at him. I stopped when I was standing behind Draco who was looking right at me now since I had called out to him. "I want to thank you for caring me to the hospital wing today." He looked at me surprised as if he thought I would just ignore it and move on, I could tell he also noticed that I was wearing the protection necklace. "Your welcome just try not to need my help again got it, Potter?" I nodded sighing before bowing to him and heading back to my table to sit next to my brother, across from Ron and Hermione. I immediately started eating which had everyone smiling at me since they had been worried about me after being told what happened. 

Then Kaito landed on my shoulder before nuzzling against my face but I did notice he seemed to have been pampered which had me confused. Since the house-elves here at Hogwarts don't clean the owls like this but I noticed he had a letter attached to his leg so I carefully took it off. The person who sent the letter was Mrs. Malfoy she was asking if I was ok since it seemed her son had taken a liking to me. I blushed when I read that since I already knew that but if it was noticeable to his parents then it must have been true. I couldn't help but feel appreciated since someone actually loved me enough that his parents were worried about me. I quickly wrote back to her thanking her for worrying me but I was alright now and that I appreciated his protection necklace. 

I attached the letter to Kaito before allowing him to fly off which had me smiling but I shook it off when Harry asked about it. Then we heard a commotion down the table only to hear that Neville got a Remembrall but couldn't remember what he had forgotten. Then Draco came over and took it from him which had Harry and Ron standing up, I immediately grabbed their robes to stop them. Mostly because Professor McGonagall was standing right behind Draco and she didn't like trouble too much. We quickly explained to her about what had happened which had Draco upset so he placed it back on the table. Then he took off with Grabble and Goyle which had me sighing, then we headed down to the lawn for our first flying class at three-thirty. I was excited about this because this was our first flying lesson, I could see the Slytherins already there. Then madam Hooch arrived, I noticed she had spiky gray hair and yellow eyes which I thought was cool. "Well, what are you all waiting for? Everyone stand by a broomstick. Come on, hurry up." I immediately walked up to a broom not wanting to upset her and I noticed that all the brooms around us were old. 

"Stick out your right hand over your broom, and say 'Up'!" I did just as she said and had the broomstick practically flying through the air. Since my entire arm shot up plus it lifted me off the ground a little bit before letting my back down. Just in time to see Ron's broom smack him in the face making us laugh even if he didn't like it. Then Madam Hooch told us how to mount our brooms without sliding as well as how to correct our grips. Harry and I apparently did it right while Harry thought it was funny that Draco was told he was doing it wrong. "Now, when I blow my whistle, you kick off from the ground, hard. Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet, and then come straight back down by leaning slightly. On my whistle - three - two -" However Neville's broom decided to go ahead and take off while sending him on a wild ride over the Forbidden Forest before bringing him back only to drop him down on the ground. His broomstick took off into the forbidden forest before going out of sight which I thought was weird.

Madam Hooch quickly checked him over before finding out that he had a broken wrist which had me worried about him. "None of you is to move while I take this boy to the hospital wing! You leave those brooms where they are or you'll be out of Hogwarts before you can say 'Quidditch.' Come on, dear." I sighed wondering why this had to happen now but there was something I has wanted to try. So I leveled out the broom before sitting down on it but was actually surprised that it stayed in the air. So I just sat there waiting for Madam Hooch to return hopefully with Neville mostly because I was worried about him. However right then Draco found Neville's remembrall and picked it up off the ground gloating about it. I just sighed knowing this was going to set Harry off since he loved sticking up for those he cared about. I just sat there waiting for him to just take off after Draco who flew into the air which had Harry going after him. Although I didn't really realize that I had people watching me shocked because I was still sitting on my broom. I even had Draco stunned when he saw me heck I even flew over to Harry when he came back down still on my broom low to the ground which had him smiling at me. "I know Hermione but technically Madam Hooch didn't say anything about us sitting on our brooms, we just couldn't fly them." She stopped right then remembering what Madam Hooch had said which is technically what I said which had her looking at me sighing. I nearly fell off my broom when Professor McGonagall yelled out Harry's name but I think she was surprised when she saw me literally sitting on my broom.
