After dinner, Avery brought me up to his room, closing the door after us. I went to lie down on his bed, feeling exhausted after being grilled and subsequently psychoanalysed by his mother. Although, I had to admit, she genuinely did give out some good advice, I was still somewhat preturbed by how easily she could read me. And I thought I was so mysterious and fiercely private.
"So..." Avery said as he slipped into bed next to me, smiling, "That went better than I expected."
"Yeah, your mom was pretty understanding. I'm glad it went well, or it would have been super awkward."
He circled his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him as he sighed happily. We sat in silence for a few moments before he spoke again, quietly.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know about your mom."
I shrugged, "It's alright. I never told you."
"Winter break's coming soon... Think you'll go pay your family a visit?"
