The Bird and The Boy

Once humans dominated the world. They built advanced civilizations and multiple cities. But one day they came across an event that would change how humanity lived forever. Cracks started to form on the surface, and monsters formed of various elements spewed from within. They started to push back humanity, and monsters started to conquer the world originally inhabited by humans. They killed dozens of people and forced humanity underground.

The last remnants of the human species are now- Toby shut the book as he laid on his bed. He was mad, because he implored his mother to tell him more about the surface, but all she did was give him this book. He already knew everything in it, and although Toby's mother was proud of him, she wanted him to act like a normal eight-year-old. And because of this, it was mandatory for Toby to go to town square and play with the other kids. But her actions backfired because Toby secretly brought books with him. He would sit on a bench and read ignoring the others. This backfired on Toby because his mom caught him sneaking books into his bag, she was originally planning to punish him but she had to reprieve his punishment due to her working circumstances.

He was being impudent by not listening to her and he continued to do so by running away when she was on the phone with her boss. He didn't do it to be rude, he did it because he wanted to leave. He wanted to go above and see everything. Even if the land above was a wasteland like they depicted in the books, he still wanted to see it, at least once. As Toby was running from his house something caught his eye.

It was a dark alleyway, and since they were underground the ceiling was made of soil and rock, and the floor here was gnarled. This area was a secluded place far from town, and because of that it was probably not managed for a long time. He heard a few sharp noises coming from the alleyway, it was as if something was clawing against wood or metal. Due to his foolhardy behavior he went into the alleyway. Once he made his way through Toby found something magnificent.

He found a multi-colored thing there. It was definitely not something he had ever seen underground, he didn't know what it was. Toby walked forward and removed the wood holding down the creature. Then in the blink of an eye, it took off leaving him stunned. He had never seen something hover in the air before. The creature was elusive, and it exasperate Toby because he couldn't catch it. The creature landed onto the cracked lamp in front of him. Toby witnessed this amazing feat with his own eyes. The creature slightly represented him in a way, its mouth was brown like Toby's hair, and some of its colors were blue, just like his eyes.

Elusive- difficult to find;catch

Exasperate- intensely irritated

Foolhardy- reckless; rash

Gnarled- roughed; twisted

Reprieve- cancel or postpone
