The Wretched Building

Toby looked at the foreign creature in awe. It was amazing, and its colors were lively and vibrant. He noticed something about the shrewd creature. One of its arms was broken, as it tried to fly again but couldn't. It could not raise its right arm properly. Well I wouldn't say an arm had feathers, but the sheltered Toby had no idea what it could be if not that. He took a closer look at the creature and realized it was emaciated. He wanted to help it. So while walking towards it he tried to seem benign, but to the creature, Toby seemed more belligerent than anything. So despite it having a broken "arm," the creature still ran away further into the alleyway leaving him there.

After a while of waiting for the creature, he realized that it wouldn't come near him, so Toby went back to his mother's estate. He was able to sneak back into his room without anyone noticing he was gone because Toby's mother worked an exploitative job. And she did not always have time to pay attention to him, but she still had a hold on Toby's actions. Despite sneaking in, eventually he got the delayed punishment he should have gotten earlier due to being rude to his mom.

The next day he got up, got dressed in black shorts, a white top, a black tie, and a black blazer. Then he headed to the formidable place that all eight-year-old children hated, school. Yes, although they are underground, they still have a school system.

For some reason, school seemed more tedious and long than it normally was. Toby couldn't focus in school and this caused him to be picked on by the teacher.

He stood up, but he didn't even know the question. It would be too embarrassing to say he didn't know, so he just stood there. All eyes were on him and he froze. Toby doesn't like being the center of attention, he'd rather stay away from it. The teacher asked him again, and as he was about to admit defeat, another voice spoke up. This caught his attention and he turned around to see a girl who was standing behind him. She had long black hair, dark brown eyes and tanned skin. She quickly gave a summary of the teacher's lesson, then sat back down after noticing all the attention had switched to her. She had a black skirt, white shirt, and a black tie.

After this, Toby sat down relieved that the question was answered. Later on during the day, he heard from the circulating gossip, gossip of unknowing 8-year-olds, that the girl's name was Eva and she had just transferred a week ago. But none of the other kids talked to her, because according to them she was a "baby." Eva had skipped a grade, so she was 7, in 3rd grade. This change was hard for her because the work was harder, and of course she had no friends. He was a little curious about her, but his main priority was the mystical creature he saw yesterday, so he couldn't get involved.
