Chapter 28: The Benevolence Society

"So you're saying that someone is using my name to build an organization? That's impossible! They don't even know that the experimental site belongs to me!"

Oaks frowned. He frequently visited the Little Rainforest, and there was no reason for him to be unaware of any social organization there.

"Well..."

Coulson and Melinda exchanged a glance and saw the seriousness of the situation in each other's eyes.

"Well, Dr. Woods... if it's not a force that you've built, then this situation becomes troublesome."

Melinda shrugged. Today has certainly been full of surprises.

"Just call me Oaks."

Oaks waved his hand and carefully thought it over before expressing uncertainty, "Could it be... their leader is a man with a disabled left leg?"

"That's right. Have you figured something out?" Coulson's eyes brightened.

"According to our knowledge, this organization is called the 'Benevolence Society,' and their leader is named Blaze Clark. He is a former mercenary who ended up in the slums after being disabled in battle..."

"Hold on a second!"

Oaks almost blurted out "What the f***."

"What did you say the organization is called?"

"The Benevolence Society, Mr. Oaks."

"..."

Oaks covered his forehead, feeling a headache coming on.

This organization had absolutely nothing to do with him!

"Do they engage in any extreme actions?"

"Well, aside from extreme exclusion, there haven't been any signs of violent crime for now."

Coulson looked at Oaks with a strange expression as he noticed Oaks's strange state ever since hearing that name. He couldn't help but feel concerned. "Are you okay, Mr. Oaks? This organization..."

"I think I should meet the leader of this organization."

Oaks suddenly spoke up, but he still maintained his peculiar state with his hand on his forehead, causing Coulson and Melinda to feel a bit amused.

"In other words, you remembered the connection between this organization and yourself?"

Looking at his current state, if he claimed to have no relation to the Benevolence Society, Coulson would immediately hug Melinda and do the Cha-Cha.

"It's a loose end I left behind due to a momentary lapse of judgment."

Oaks let go of his hand covering his forehead. In a short period of time, he had made up his mind.

"Although I didn't initiate it, since the situation arose because of me, I must take responsibility."

Coulson and Melinda couldn't help but smile at his attitude.

Oaks's stance showed that he was a responsible person. Such individuals were extremely rare among those with special abilities, and they were beneficial to society.

"May I ask what exactly happened?"

Coulson was still curious, and it also related to his mission report.

"According to our investigation, this organization is simply extremely exclusive. They don't allow anyone they don't trust to enter their sphere of influence, which includes the area around your ecological experimental site—"

"Of course, we understand the reasons, and to investigate this matter, one of our excellent social agents even ended up in the hospital—"

"Their methods of protecting secrets are somewhat extreme, so that's why I mentioned earlier that it might affect our assessment of you."

"Then let's go together."

Oaks sighed.

"That experimental site, called 'Little Rainforest,' had already achieved its research objectives half a year ago, and I have collected enough data."

Standing up, Oaks took a long coat from the hanger.

"However, at that time, the peculiar order in the slums had already begun to form... So I didn't shut down the place. I thought it could help more people, but now it seems to have caused quite a bit of trouble."

Oaks put on the long coat and his expression turned cold.

"If I find out that the organization has really done something illegal... I can take back what they have and even charge interest."

"Mr. Oaks, you can't take matters into your own hands."

Coulson also stood up. Although he wanted to see what Oaks was capable of, it was clear that such actions were not in accordance with regulations.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Oaks, but if there is a problem, let us handle it."

"I'll drive. Coulson, you should communicate all the information about the Benevolence Society with Oaks."

Melinda took Laura's car keys out of Coulson's pocket and smiled.

"The Little Rainforest is an ecological miracle. Other ecological parks pale in comparison... It would be a good thing if it can be preserved, both for the people in the slums and for maintaining order."

"Thank you, Ms. Melinda. I will consider it."

The tension between the agents and the person under investigation unexpectedly eased. This could be seen from the way they addressed each other, which surprised and pleased Coulson and Melinda.

Melinda, the experienced driver, took the wheel herself, scaring countless hip-hop enthusiasts and street racers along the way. When they parked, they were already next to the Little Rainforest.

"What are you guys doing here!"

As soon as Oaks got out of the car, several fierce men rushed over.

"We don't welcome outsiders here! Leave immediately, or don't blame us for being impolite!"

"We are government officials."

Coulson naturally wouldn't explain what the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division was. They weren't qualified enough.

"We want to see your leader."

"Leader?"

The leading man sneered.

"Government trash, are you even concerned about the slums? We just gathered spontaneously. What leader? Do I look like a leader? Hahaha!"

The men laughed as if they had heard something funny.

"If there's no leader, then what is this young man planning to do?"

Melinda appeared behind the group of men at some point.

A scream rang out, and the men suddenly turned around, only to see a young man held in check by Melinda, his hands behind his back.

"Damn it, let go of Jack, you b****!"

"Hey! You guys are in big trouble! I bet you won't be able to leave this street!"

"Someone else go and report!"

The men made a commotion but didn't rush forward like they would in other neighborhoods.

It wasn't that they didn't want to, but that they didn't dare.

Because Coulson was wiping his holstered gun with a piece of cloth.

"That's enough!"

A low and seemingly unremarkable voice resonated, as if it had triggered the surrounding environment. The poor people who were about to report the situation stopped in their tracks.

Oaks inserted one hand into his pocket and pointed to the fenced Little Rainforest.

"Go and call Blaze Clark to come and see me. I can create this Little Rainforest, and I can also take it back— If you have prepared for the winter, you can ignore my words."
