Chapter 29: Forest of Miracles

The poor people obediently complied.

Only when it came to the Little Rainforest, which ensured their survival, they dared not make any mistakes.

One could say that they lacked courage, but after two years of enjoying the benefits of a welfare lifestyle, they were unwilling to take risks. And most importantly...

"Did he really say that?"

Blaze Clark, the leader of the Benevolence Society, the man who usually maintained order, brightened his eyes and grabbed the young boy who came to report.

"He really said he created this forest?"

"Yes, Leader! He also said this forest is called... called 'Little Rainforest'!"

The young boy was excited. The leader had emphasized this matter before, and now...

"How many times have I told you, don't call me leader!"

Blaze Clark swung his cane, stood up, and slapped the young boy on the head.

"I'm just an organizer. If what that young man said is true, then he is our leader!"

Blaze, in his forties, had never thought that his life could have a turning point.

At the peak of his physical condition, he lost a leg during a mission, forcing him to end his mercenary career and he had to return to the place he had desperately fought to leave.

But as a mercenary, they all made a living with their heads, not just their bodies. So he made a fair amount of money and spent it freely.

The result was that after saving his own life, Blaze suddenly discovered that his meager savings had been depleted. He could only rely on his disabled body to do dirty work that he would never have done in the past.

Although American social welfare prevented him from starving to death, could receiving relief and scavenging from trash cans help him overcome his addiction?

Finally, before a robbery, he was knocked unconscious.

The attacker was merciless, seemingly using some otherworldly means. He remained unconscious for several days.

When he woke up, his eyes had turned green, and he was so hungry that he wanted to gnaw on his own arm.

And Blaze realized that he was in a forest.

Although it looked like an indoor setting, it wasn't just a simple botanical garden. It had structures for regulating the environment, such as a transparent dome, simulated supplementary lighting, and artificial rivers.

More importantly, there were edible fruits here!

Blaze was too exhausted to question this strange scene. It was only after he filled his stomach that he realized the fruit trees he had plucked fruit from earlier had already produced young, green fruits!

What else could this be if not a miracle?

Afterward, he had to stay in this fruit garden for half a year.

Because he couldn't find the exit!

Although this fruit garden seemed to be no larger than a football field, it was like a maze.

While there were edible plants bearing various fruits everywhere, it seemed that their variety was constantly increasing.

At first, there were only some common fruit trees like apple trees, orange trees, and pear trees.

But as he got lost more and more, various tropical, temperate, and even frigid zone plants began to appear—

How were they able to bear fruit together in the same garden?!

But after encountering almost all the fruits he recognized, completely unfamiliar fruits started to appear—

They were large in size and not very tasty at first, but their flavors seemed to constantly change—for the better, fortunately.

Most importantly, he finally remembered that his addiction to drugs and alcohol had not resurfaced!

"These miraculous fruits... they are a gift from God!"

And when he no longer saw any new varieties of fruits appearing, batches of people were thrown in one after another...

Their experiences were similar to Blaze's, and they were not good people either.

After another month, they had become like wild men, and they finally found a supply point.

There were clean clothes, razors, scissors for haircuts, and even showers!

Blaze understood it all now. What gift from God,... It seemed that they had been captured by some mysterious scientist for human experiments!

Behind the supply point was a double door, completely covered in dense vines.

After leaving the fruit garden, they had thought about coming back, but they could never open the vine-covered doors.

These vines were alive—they were something these people couldn't break through.

When winter arrived, Blaze, who had been missing for a long time, dared not commit any more crimes. However, his enemies hadn't forgotten about him.

During their revenge, he was injected with drugs and, with his disabled body, he succumbed to a terrible drug addiction in the heavy snow. It was then, unconsciously he found himself back in this place.

When his frozen hands desperately touched the doors, the vines retreated and the doors opened.

But he didn't notice that a pair of emerald green cat eyes were silently watching him.

After entering, Blaze lost consciousness.

When he woke up, he discovered that the original "fruit garden" had turned into a "forest" that remained warm like spring.

With nowhere else to go, he continued to receive the generous gifts of this forest. From that moment on, Blaze swore.

"Whether the creator of this place is an angel or a demon, I, Blaze Clark, will follow him for the rest of my life!"

Blaze, who had endured the cold winter night, found the others who had been trapped in that forest before.

Compared to Blaze, who had lost his left leg, their conditions were slightly better, but not by much.

Blaze informed them of the changes in the "fruit garden" and planned to use this blessing to bring new hope to the neighborhood, where hundreds of people might have died during the winter due to drugs and crime.

Six months later, things gradually evolved into what Oaks saw.

And Blaze, who was initially saved by Oaks's moment of compassion, became the only person personally marked by Oaks to enter the Little Rainforest.

After discovering this, Blaze became even more convinced that this was his sacred mission.

Using his abilities, he extracted the miraculous fruits from the Little Rainforest and, together with a few others who had experienced the same situation, rescued more and more people.

Among them, the majority had histories of involuntary criminal activity.

But for those who committed crimes for the sake of crime, they were thrown over the walls surrounding the Little Rainforest.

Although there was basic social welfare to prevent starvation, many poor people died during winter due to drug overdoses, illness, freezing, crimes, and vendettas.

With Blaze's influence, which rapidly brought an end to the chaos in the vicinity using various means, the secrets of this place were always kept within the boundaries of the street.

With the gifts from the Little Rainforest, many people overcame their hardships and regained their health, keeping all of this in their hearts.

Later on, besides the miraculous fruits that could detoxify, ordinary fruits were used as welfare, assisting the most disadvantaged groups.

Even though Oaks was unaware of the situation, Blaze was regarded by all the helped poor people as their savior—but he couldn't accept this.

This gratitude could only belong to the owner of this forest, the one who had never shown themselves.

Although Blaze tried everything, he couldn't uncover the person behind this forest.

When Blaze saw the red-haired Oaks and the obedient vines surrounding him like puppies, a relieved smile appeared on his face.

"We sinners have finally found the true savior."
