Chapter 232: S.H.I.E.L.D, Even Dogs Don't Want It

I have to say, it feels really good to personally torment that bastard Nick Fury.

Especially when he couldn't fight back and had to show gratitude and support.

Steve, Natasha, and Sam Wilson—Steve's flying friend he found—were not feeling good after overhearing their conversation.

"I have to ask," Sam cautiously asked Steve, who was smiling but also seemed a bit awkward:

"Do people with higher education tend to have strange tempers?"

"Uh... Oaks usually have a good temper."

What else could Steve say? In fact, ever since their conversation in the office and the Insight Helicarrier, he felt quite relieved to have given Nick Fury a taste of his own medicine:

"It was just a bit of pain. Honestly, even without Oaks' healing magic, I would still support him doing this."

After hearing Steve's response, Sam looked at him with a horrified expression.

But after a moment, he suddenly realized something and nodded in agreement:

"Captain is right. After experiencing such a brutal assassination, it would be too fake to play dead without any obvious injuries.

If they discovered him in the hospital and finished the job, that would be the end for real!"

Natasha, who was nearby, rolled her eyes. This guy was such a die-hard fan of Captain America. The same situation, but when Oaks does it, he's considered strange-tempered, and when Steve says it, it's considered right...

Oaks came with Skull, and Steve had a great rapport about Skull's senses. It would be quite useful in their upcoming operations.

Now, this German Shepherd couldn't resist scratching its back legs.

"Alright, gentlemen, don't we need to discuss the real matter at hand now?"

Natasha transmitted the video footage to Hill, who directly connected it to her laptop and began playing it.

Everyone present could be trusted, and Oaks didn't say anything, so they all sat down together and watched the video.

"You've got some moves, kid. So, I'd say it's a huge loss that you're not in our line of work."

Nick Fury finished watching the video with a strange expression. He highly praised Oaks for manipulating Zola with soul projection:

"What you discovered is truly amazing... HYDRA has more than just Pierce as their leader. Unfortunately, he didn't reveal their identities."

As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he didn't even notice the presence of HYDRA lurking within the organization, let alone multiple leaders.

"That's reasonable. 'Cut off one head, and two more will take its place.' If HYDRA keeps getting killed, there must be various 'backups'."

Oaks shook his finger, looking like a professional:

"Even if they are leaders of HYDRA, they are still human. Pierce's energy is limited; he can't hide his identity and oversee everything at the same time. He stands at the intersection of light and shadow and can't handle things like you, the upright director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who manages and controls everything."

Seeing Fury's eye glaring at him, Oaks shrugged:

"This is how a normal organizational leader should be... Busy all day, managing organizational affairs while not neglecting one's own research and tasks.

Pierce may be better at management than me, but he can never control all of HYDRA of the entire world.

If he is the sole leader of HYDRA and can still deceive you... then you would be a big failure!"

"..."

Nick Fury opened his mouth but could only nod reluctantly, agreeing with Oaks' point of view.

It made sense this way. They were a group of people, and he was just one person.

I was in the light, while they were in the dark. They conspired against me as a group, and it was understandable that I didn't notice... right?

"I used to think that joining S.H.I.E.L.D was finally walking the right path, but in the end, I was working for HYDRA."

Natasha glanced deeply at Nick Fury. S.H.I.E.L.D. held a special meaning for her:

"So, no matter what the Insight Program is, we must prevent the Helicarriers from taking off."

"I don't think the Council will answer my call."

Nick Fury opened a box on the table, revealing three chips inside.

"What's this?"

"When the helicarriers reach an altitude of 3000 feet, they will form an array with the Insight satellites, and then become fully weaponized."

Agent Hill turned her notebook around and pushed it towards everyone. On it was the network model of the Insight helicarriers and the locations of the control chips.

"We must replace the positioning server chips in all three carriers with ours. Otherwise, as long as one successfully reaches the designated position, it will still function as intended."

"So, we have to assume that everyone on those carriers is affiliated with HYDRA. We need to infiltrate and insert the chips. That way, we might be able to salvage the situation..."

"Salvage? No, we won't salvage it."

Steve glanced at Oaks and gave him a look that said, "Just as I expected." Oaks shrugged in response.

"We will destroy both HYDRA and S.H.I.E.L.D. The helicarriers are no exception."

"But this has nothing to do with S.H.I.E.L.D.!"

Nick Fury's eyes widened.

"We have already uncovered HYDRA's plot!"

"How many people have sacrificed themselves before we discovered it?"

Steve's aura was fully activated, with a serious expression and a commanding presence.

"The division and management you advocate have also benefited HYDRA, allowing them to grow to this point. You are 'partly responsible,' Fury!"

"...He's right."

Agent Hill looked at Nick Fury, who was still staring at her, and nodded with pursed lips.

Fury then looked at Natasha, who didn't say a word but gave him a meaningful glance.

He then turned to Sam, who shrugged his shoulders.

"Don't look at me. I'll do whatever the Captain does.

Finally, Fury looked at Oaks.

"Did you guys plan this before coming here?"

"Tsk, what a pity, Director."

Oaks spread his hands, giving Nick Fury a sarcastic smile.

"I'm not an agent. I'm just helping out as a favor. While my security supervisor was working part-time with you guys, he was... compromised.

Cough, I mean, he suffered personal injury and damage to his reputation. I didn't even ask you for compensation, and now you're questioning me?

Also, you've been through two near-death experiences, and you still haven't settled the bill for those off-the-books services.

Our relationship is purely business, you scratch my back, I scratch yours kind of thing.

At most, I'll give you a discount out of respect for Captain."

Nick Fury's chest heaved heavily. This guy's words were still so infuriating. What do I have right now that I can present to you?!

"Do you want S.H.I.E.L.D.?"

Oaks took a server chip and looked at it.

"Are you kidding me? Even dogs don't want it."

"What did you say?!" Nick Fury's eyes widened.

"Skoll, do you want S.H.I.E.L.D.?"

"No, I can't eat it."

"See!"

"...Isn't it a wolf?!"
