Chapter 23: Back to Business?

Panificio Sartori harmonized with pastel neighbors in a coat of vibrant coral. A teal and white awning, damp from the recent storm, covered one space for open-air dining as well as the bakery entrance. From the many framed pictures and scrapbooks Cora had shown them, Reesa knew the upper floors’ flower boxes were due for a revival, but with the centennial fast approaching on March 7th, they’d have to rely on the building’s other charms.

“What do you think? Ivory, aqua, or both?” Cora asked as she and Reesa thumbed through options for tablecloths.

“I say both. If you alternate, you can play up the awning.”

“I like that,” Cora said. She set her eyes on the stucco. “I want to use crepe paper roses for the centerpieces. Maybe we can match them to the exterior?”

“That would be perfect,” Reesa said. “Just like this sunrise.”
