Chapter 48: Gabriel

Reesa’s first set of watercolors was a gift from her parents. They’d made the purchase after she grew fascinated with Elizabeth Murray, a 19th-century watercolorist who’d learned to paint from her father. While barely five at the time, she distinctly recalled feeling as though a magical world was unfolding through her brushstrokes.

Standing in her childhood bedroom as an adult, she saw something else had unfolded.

In the days leading up to this, April’s rain provided the soundtrack to her work. Sketches and paintings flowed freely like the water, thanks to inspiration in streams. Now, with aching hands and eyes that fought to stay open, she confronted what she’d created.

Her and Myko’s love was on canvas, or rather, many canvases, spanning the realistic and abstract. Without intending to, she’d produced an entire series based on their adventures.

“By far my best,” she said as she studied them. “But what am I going to do with you?”
