A Woman's Name

Once Davi fell asleep, Lemiel bent down to kiss the boy's forehead. He closed the storybook and put it on the bedside table. He stood up as Sienna raised the blanket up to Davi's chest.

She could feel his eyes on her as she removed herself from the bed. Standing on either side of the bed, they locked gazes. The tenderness she had seen earlier in his eyes was gone. They were pools of daylight that seemed too deep for her to see anything.

"Follow me," he said and he walked to the door with quiet steps that one wouldn't even hear in the quietest room.

When they entered Lemiel's dimly lit room, the windows were slightly ajar, allowing the cold wind to pass through the openings. Sienna shivered. She stared at Lemiel's back. He was standing five feet away, not looking at her, yet she was intimidated by his presence. She doubted if she would ever be comfortable around him.
